I came into the show knowing almost nothing about the books or video game - mostly lured into it by seeing gifs and reading meta on tumblr reblogs lol. And I sort of had to reserve judgment on it for the first episode - until those fight scenes at the end with Renfri and her men. God, those hooked me. Any show willing to so meticulously craft the choreography of fight scenes has got to be worth watching, imo; to me, it speaks to the care the showrunners will put into the overall storylines as well. And though the first season has some lows, the highs *definitely* outweigh them (again, imo). So I get why this might not quite live up to the hopes of people who are longtime fans of the other Witcher works, but for newbies like me, the background stuff really helped. Regarding the girls who became eels - I think the general implication was that they didn't have enough talent or magical power to ascend, and yet they *did* have enough to useful to the counsel. I interpret their existence as eels in the waters as a power source for the other mages/sorceresses at Aretuza to draw upon. And as for Istredd's interest in Yennifer, I don't think it meant to be confusing at all, nor motivated by orders to endear himself to her. Not only does the episode make clear that several months pass over the course of Yennifer's stay there and that she and Istredd have been meeting in secret the entire time, but I think he was fascinated by her from the very first time she accidentally portoled to him. More than that, I think it shows how much he *likes* her, and all of her conflicting personality traits. In particular, the intimacy of the scene where he lets her into his mind attests to their mutual attraction and interest. Having said all that, though, I *loved* that switch at the end, each of their personal ambitions overruling any softer feelings they have for each other. Editing to add: I would literally die for Jaskier. 😂😍 Love that you're watching this! Very much looking forward to the next!

It is Dandelion - they call him Jaskier in the show (which is his original Polish name :) )

The way I take it is that the three girls did have power to use chaos, but couldn't control it (which is what Tissaia called magic) so they are turned into something that can't cause harm and act as conduits of chaos, a power source for Aretuza.
