In 1998 my mom passed from many yrs of cervical cancer. I found Charmed. It was my way of escaping my own personal demons. The first season was rough... the writing wasn't great and the acting was just above ok. However, they knew how to sell a story. I was hooked by the end of the season and knew it would become my #1 show of all time. This reboot does not have the same effect... not just for me, but for everyone. I got about half ways through the 1st season and just never went bk. It did get better after the pilot, much better. For the pilot it was very rushed, like as if they put about 5 or 6 episodes into one. Macy, my favorite of the 3 should have been introduced at the end of the 1st ep in my opinion... tossing some learning stuff into the following 2 or so episodes, than introducing Harry as the Whitelighter to the girls followed by the spirit board message. It was too rushed and that gave the actors no time to show us who they are and act well. I do plan on re-watching and getting bk into THIS show, but it can never earn my top spot of favorite show of all time... the original Charmed owns that position. Please... if you ever feel like truly finding a "witch" show that'll make you dislike witches, it's Charmed. The storyline is good and the characters are the best... yes, even the "bad" guys... well, like I said, s1 isn't the best, but I'm sure you could look past that once you in it, like with Buffy and just about every show.

I didn't hate the pilot as much as you. I really gave this show a chance and liked several parts of it but overall it's pretty bad. The writing is all over the place and for the most part it feels like the worst aspects of OG Charmed.

Also, the controversy with the show wasn't because they cast Women of colour. The fandom liked that. But before they premiered they were saying everywhere that they are going to be a feminist version of the show, like implying that the original wasn't feminist(which it was, especially for that time, and they didn't even have to scream about how feminist they are like this pilot). This episode and the first season, in general, is trying so hard to scream that it's feminist, and the funny thing is that they go ahead then and do the scene with Harry and the girls at the attic. You know, the one where a white man kidnaps three women of colour, ties them up and basically says "So, you three witches are working for me now, coz there is an apocalypse coming. Now get your shit together and go vanquish some demons" I'm just saying)
