Give Donna a chance. She is many people's favorite companion and her time in the TARDIS just began. This episode is usually one I skip on rewatches because the ending is so hard for me to watch. The real story of Pompeii is depressing enough, and to see all those actors portraying the people who actually died is tough to see.

Donna is just very assertive and honest (blunt and abrasive is another way of putting it) with her emotions and thoughts. I also think she tends to use being loud/coming out fighting as a defense. Some people tend to get angry because anger is easier to deal with than fear/pain/helplessness. But I think she already proved she is one tough cookie in that she didn't just stand there when the Doctor had to make such an impossible decision, she put her hand on the lever too, intentionally taking half the burden of killing all of those people, so the Doctor wouldn't have to do it alone. I don't find getting emotional to be a weakness, it can be a great strength to let emotions out, deal with them courageously, and they can drive a person to do extraordinary things. Also, the Doctor definitely needs someone to challenge him sometimes and I think Donna is pretty good at that. Just my two cents. Oh, and I think when the Doctor said everyone will remember you, he just meant Pompeii and the lives lost and what they went through in general, not the father specifically himself. But I'm with you on the monster and all that as being on the corny side. I love a good monster and plot, but I'm more about character driven stuff anyway, and decent plotting, so I tend to be fine with meh monsters, and overlook them a lot of the time, but I know it's kind of disappointing when an episode has some brilliant bits in, but other parts that kind of make it cringy.

You are allowed to feel however it is you wish about with anything when it comes to this show. You don't have to like a Companion of a Doctor, the key is to hold onto something you do enjoy because this show is all about change and not everything is for everyone.

I love how you see all sides, I like how honest you are in your critique. Welcome to the fandom, you are a much welcome addition.

So like some people, I have total faith that Donna will prove herself to you, but I also wouldn't let it get to you if you wind up not liking her/people get defensive over her. She is my all time favorite companion, I get where they are coming from, and I firmly believe that once you have more time to get to know her, knowing the tastes you've shown in the past, she WILL grow on you, but it isn't the end of the world at all if that doesn't happen. One of my best Who buddies considered her obnoxious from start to finish, and another loves her but can't even begin to comprehend why I prefer her to Rose. People like different things in a companion and that's what makes the conversation interesting! I'm really curious to see how you'll feel about her in the long run as she develops into her character.

That being said, fun fact! The main family from this episode is actually central to a famous series of Latin textbooks, The Cambridge Latin Course. My junior high school required a year of latin to give us a wider basis for language in general, and we used those books, so when about a decade later I came upon this episode? You can imagine how much of a god damn double take I did.

Donna grows on you. Like a fungus...

Donna isn't my favorite companion, but Season 4 is my favorite out of all Seasons. We meet River Song, 12 angry people, and Jenny.

so you are just going to leave all this information on episode 2 of the new season? What do you hope to accomplish by doing so? This is a spoiler and shows how little respect you have for the reactor and how they may enjoy the show.

The reactor is on episode 2, why are so many people so hell bent on making him react a certain way. let him figure out how he feels about Donna because when this season first aired all people did was complain about her. This is his journey through Doctor Who, not our journey. stop trying to control a person's reaction, I know this is my fault for bringing it up and I feel superior (those are the common rebuttals, so now you have to come up with another)
