A debutante ball is some fancy-schmancy event where the teenage daughters of the higher classes are "introduced into society". If you continue The O.C. (*fingers crossed*) you'll see one in episode 4 or 5 if I remember correctly. Gossip Girl with a high society setting also has one pretty early on (also based on memory). But a pregnant girl would not be accepted by said "society".
