At some point you have to wonder just how good these detectives are but then I look at the solve rate for crimes in my city and see they were at 17% in 2017 and the average for the state of florida was 20%.

I think the episodes flow better now for a couple reasons. The first reason is that the earlier episodes set up all the main relationships and story lines so now we just jump in and out of each one as the episode goes. There’s no more need for extended introductory exposition, just go from one setting to another and the viewer has to make the connections. The second reason is that the first couple episodes felt more like a crime procedural show[CSI Miami), while the last few feel more like a character drama about Dexter so all the storylines: girlfriend, past, cop life, “friendships”, serial killer life just kind of interconnect. Because of that we can have a serial killer scene in which Dexter gets relationship advice and it works because the shows about a character more than just a genre crime show now.

Dexter does NOT use the same location each time. He uses the appropriate location based on the victim. Just wanna make sure you know that.
