To answer question, mystic falls had 5 founding families. Salvatores, Lockwoods, Gilberts, Forbes, and Fells. So Tyler’s family history is indeed Lockwood and one of them, we know they have the council of founders to keep vampires in check, like sheriff Forbes, Caroline’s mother. Damon and Stephen are of course Salvatore’s, and Elena is actually a Gilbert. You haven’t really seen much of the Fell family, their mainly town news folk, like the reporter guy Elena’s aunt use to date. Bonnie’s family wasn’t a founding family as her great relative, Bonnie traveled in there with kathrine.
