Any time we get to see The Host, and I'm happy 💜 I've just had this bad thought though (Angel and Buffy make me think the worst, at times!) and I just hope this adorable, big, green fellow doesn't come to any harm. ANGEL! Protect him! Do you hear me?!

A good episode, but the best parts for me were with Angel and The Host 🥰🤣

Just a spoiler-free (concerning the Buffyverse) information about the host's actor Andy Mallet: It's good that you decided not to google him because his work as an actor and singer is almost exclusively in Angel so every online information of him is full of spoilers. This is not because of a lack of talent but sadly the actor became very ill shortly after his time with Angel and didn't continue his career as an actor. I also haven't found any published music by him outside the show, but maybe there is some. He died very young and we will never know what could have become of his music and acting career (without green prosthetics) otherwise.

There are a few things about this episode I like. Seeing Virginia again for example - and the way she acts too, it's just fun. And I love the Host's talk about holding a note and listening for the change. But other than that I've never really liked this episode, but it wasn't until I saw TPN's review that I knew why. Gene is effectively doing a murder-suicide. And in the end, he's the one getting sympathy. Not the girl he was trying to kill. Who, to be clear, was also not handling things correctly - but whatever her faults she didn't deserve to be removed from time just so Gene didn't want to let her go.

I agree it's pretty much a murder suicide. It might not be sympathy for sympathy's sake though. They may just be trying to do anything to stop him from doing that again because since he's human they can't kill him or hold him. Since he was already basically going to die, I don't think threatening him would be effective either.

That is honestly SO very sad. He seemed like such a talented and gentle soul, too.
