Hey guys!
I'm making good progress with the comic right now. I'm around 65% done and finished multiple panels this week, which I'm very happy about.
HOWEVER, I think I'll have to consider a new approach for future updates and it will probably be something my community will have to get used to first

I HAVE to simplify my shading.

While working ont his comic, I noticed that what took me the longest to finish a panel was NOT the sketching and lining, not the coloring, not the backgrounds - It was the rendering. the SHADING to be exact. It takes me HOURS to finish the shading on multiple panels, trying to keep it PERSISTENT and identical-looking in hue and tone.
I still struggle with raw sunlight. Shading a sunset, a night scene, an icy cold morning, that's all fine. But WARM SUNLIGHT on a CLOUDLESS DAY is the WORST THING TO SHADE. On some of these panels I used 3-5 colors to shade with and then I see animators getting across the atmosphere of a warm summer day with just two layers of shading on their characters and it's PERFECT.

I NEED TO GET THERE. I NEED to simplify my shading and learn even more about colors to make life easier for me.

I know how much you guys love my vibrant colors and detailed rendering in my comic and I know how much life it brings to the canvas. But with how many new projects I am equally invested in, wanting to move my books forwards, doing some more smaller other comics, continuing my illustrations...

If I want to keep moving forward with the comic, I have to learn to adjust to the actual FORMAT of comics. I need to work smarter and reduce work significantly to be able to draw more.

SO ON THE RIGHT you see a first test of how a simpler shading style the like could look like!
Version 1 on the left will be what I'll still be going for with this current update, since it's the shading style I've been using all Arc long and it would be weird to break style now.

But the end of the Gladion Arc could actually be the perfect starting point for a new big change. I hope I'll be able to figure this out and I hope you guys won't mind the style change!

I'll keep you all updated on my progress with this <3

I actually REALLY like the new shading style on the right!

I agree. I really like the shading on the right. I actually had thought that was what you were doing and you were changing it, lol. At the end of the day, though, I'd rather you be happy with anything that you're doing and what makes your life easier because your mental well-being is important, too! Can't create things when you're burned out (from experience). :-(
