Turns out I was only perplexed about this because it happened while I was ostensibly "exercising" (in the least strenuous way possible), which meant that I always kept moving.

Ah, just as I was beginning to enjoy this little episodic movie: Mike D'Angelo starring in "Under the Silver Lamp" directed by David Robert Mitchell....

Damn, our world is so boring... You have a very soothing voice, though!

Thank you for letting us know.

We can keep it going. Perhaps Mike got too close to the truth, and they've rewired the lamp since the last video to throw him off their tracks.

I'm not gonna create a whole new post for it, but just for fun, here's a link to the first video I shot last night, in which you can hear me start to realize the truth (which then prompted me to stick around and discover what was in fact happening). In hindsight, I can see that I rationalized my location in the video from night before last; "I'm roughly in the same place" was just not true, but I wanted to believe that it was true and convinced myself. Which is how this works. And I only saw the light go out from quite a distance last night because I moved to the other side of the road even earlier. From my standard route the trees would obscure it. Still kind of a strange coincidence that it never happened to go off/on when I was directly underneath or a few steps past it, which would have been a big tipoff; that was why I mistakenly ruled out the cycling-all-night hypothesis. (Plus I imagined a longer cycle than 37 seconds, which is just the right length for me to virtually always encounter it but not see it happen twice unless I stopped walking.) Anyway, here's the bonus video: https://www.flickr.com/photos/56002579@N00/50510316528/in/datetaken-public/

"You don't really want to work it out. You want to be--" [light turns off] "--fooled."
