As noted in the comments from yesterday's post (which you should read first if you haven't already), I decided to undertake a little "scientific experiment" last night and approach the mysterious streetlight from across the road. (Didn't finish the thought on video, but the other side of this road abuts Oxnard Blvd., my city's main thoroughfare, which just a little further on more or less merges with the Pacific Coast Highway. Anyway, there's no sidewalk over there, which is why I always walk on the other side. But it was no problem to just stroll in the middle of the street after midnight, as there's no traffic to speak of.) If nothing happened from over there, but the lamp subsequently went off/on when I doubled back and approached it from the sidewalk as usual, that would be pretty compelling evidence in favor of the hypothesis that something located beneath the pavement causes this odd behavior. And it turned out...well, see for yourself.

Are we witnessing the birth of patreon found footage horror?

Do you listen to the podcast "Reply All" by any chance? This is the sort of thing they love to investigate (though its similarity to a Wikipedia-chronicled trope may make them wary).

In case you're curious, this is the tag for episodes with the relevant theme, with the "Roman Mars Mazda Virus" episode being particularly on point: https://gimletmedia.com/tags/6dug/super-tech-support Eagerly awaiting the solution to the mystery, regardless.

OK - so I acknowledge how conspiracy-minded this sounds, and/or you've probably done this, but if you examine the streetlight during the day, are there any differences from the other ones, e.g. is it possible that somebody has tampered with it, or installed something being powered by it, or anything at all?

I have not looked. But it doesn’t really matter imo. Even if that’s the case, what I’m curious about is *how* I’m triggering it. Right now my phone seems like the most plausible answer, so tonight I’ll try without it (though, again, even if nothing happens that’s not at all conclusive).

OK - Learning a bit about street lamps. That sensor at the top, which is designed to shut it off during the day may be what is triggering this, perhaps by way of your personal electronics? Maybe the easier way to test your phone is to just turn off WiFi and data on your walk? But apparently kids do use laser-pointers to shut street-lamps down, for criming purposes.
