(For those wondering, previous Scene finalists from the Mission: Impossible franchise have been Burj Khalifa from Ghost Protocol (#4, 2011) and the opera shootout from Rogue Nation (also #19, 2015). No doubt the Langley break-in from the first film would have placed highly, but I didn't create the Scene category until the following year.)

HISTORY:

King didn't place for the first Paddington, his only previous Skandie-eligible feature. (Looks like Bunny and the Bull never got a NYC release.)

Davis has previously placed three times in Supporting, for Doubt (#8, 2008), Blackhat (#18, 2015), and Fences (#7, 2016). All of the other actors are new, as is Mr. Fendt.

Shoplifters is the first Palme d’Or winner to place (barely) since Winter Sleep. (In between, in case you’ve forgotten: Dheepan; I, Daniel Blake; The Square.)
