You seemed a little confused about Zukos family here at the end. To clarify, there was no marriage between Sozins and Zukos families until Ursa (Zukos Mom), and Ozai. Ursa wasnt royalty by birth, she married into royalty, by marrying Zukos father (Ozai, current firelord). So Sozin didnt kill his brother in law or anything. He killed his childhood best friend that had no legal familiarity at the time.

Also, do you have any plans to read the comics (on your own time or not) after the show? Theres a lot in there about this situation. If you dont plan to read them, I've got a 1 word not quite but kinda spoiler for them, if so, ill just stay silent. (Its one word, not a full story on the family and marriage lol)

one thing you need to understand is how long Avatar Kyoshi, the big woman before Roku lived. She lived for 230 years. And she was godlike. back in the episode avatar day we see her basically bending the crust of the earth and terraforming the planet. and she was ruthless. After her death the fire nation knew they were next in line for an avatar. And they planned from the very beginning to use him to conquer the world. Problem was: Rokku was not too keen on that.
