trunks has a penchant for splitting people in two, doesn't he? first he did it for freeza back on earth and now he did it to zamasu. anyways, i never been too big of a fan of the term "retconning things". retconning means that things are set in stone and can never be changed no matter what, however that's not how real life works. just look at humanity's progress over the last hundreds years. we are constantly discovering new things, many of which contradict how we thought things worked in the past. does this mean it's a retcon? no, we simply learned new things about something we thought we knew and i prefer to see developments like these in a similar light. of course i'm not saying retcons don't exist at all. rewriting goku's origin for example is definitely a retcon, but i don't think things like learning about how potaras effect different beings in different ways necessarily count as one.
