Blog: That Damn Writer Can't Just Stay in One Place! (Patreon)

About a year and half ago, I moved homes. After living in one place for almost ten years, it was an arduous process of going through my entire life and deciding what was coming with me and what I no longer needed. Then came the cleaning. The packing. The moving. The unpacking. The arranging. The rearranging.

It was a pretty chaotic time. Some of you patrons might remember this from the end of 2020.

Well, I had so much fun that I’m going to do it again.

I’m currently in the midst of doing one of the most adult things ever: buying a house of my own. If everything goes to plan (and so far, so good), next month I’ll be packing, moving, cleaning, etc. Again.

And I hear you: “But, QH, if you’re gonna be so busy, what does that mean for the Patreon?”

Great question! Let’s break it down. In a list, because I love lists.

• The QH Patreon will remain active and new stories will continue to be published. I’ve seen this coming for a few months now, so I’ve been working hard on building a cache of stories that I can post while I’m busy. It was also important to me that I write things in advance, as opposed to writing them in a rush now, so that the quality doesn’t suffer.
• I probably will be a little less responsive to messages and comments. And, admittedly, I’m not always the best at timely responses now. I’ll continue to do my best to respond to anyone who reaches out to me on Patreon, or any other platform, but just expect a slightly longer time in my response.
• Because I can’t dependably predict when I’ll have time for writing for the next few months, I won’t be accepting commission requests until a later time. I do love commissions–there’s always something refreshing about writing about what someone else’s specific fantasies and interests–so as soon as I’m able to work on them again, I’ll let everyone know.

In the long run, I think this move will be beneficial for all of us. I’ll have a bigger dedicated workspace for writing (and, you know, my day job), which is going to make it easier than ever to focus on new stories and projects.

We’re quickly approaching the second anniversary of the QH Patreon, too. That, combined with the move, feels like a good opportunity to take a closer look at the Patreon and make some changes.

And so I’d love to hear from you. What do you think is working? Do you like the posting schedule? Do you think the tiers are fair? What else do you wish I was doing that I’m not? Do you wish that I posted more pictures of dogs wearing hats?
