Hey everyone, and happy New Release Monday! Today, I have "The Old Road Encounters" map for you, which features a windy road cutting through a looming dark pine forest. Inspired by The Old Svalich Road of Curse of Strahd and knowing how often road maps are needed by DMs, I wanted to create this in my generic series of maps to provide additional versatility to you, the DM. This map has three core variants, which I'll detail below.

I created this map with three core variants to give you some flexibility:

  • Variant 1: Featuring a party encampment off the side of the road

  • Variant 2: Features a single gravestone with a rusty sword stuck into the ground and a singular candle flickering against the fog. (Inspired by one of the random encounters from the Curse of Strahd modules)

  • Variant 3: Filled this space with more trees to be used as a generic road encounter map

In addition to the variants, I also created "No Light" versions for those that feature light sources and "No Tree" variants for those DMs who like to remove the tree canopy for token placement. I created some sprawling, tangled roots and stumps to still show the placement of the trees, however!

I hope this will give you plenty of options to run your road encounters with!

If I have time this month, I might also introduce a more fun variant featuring a "Leomund's Tiny Hut" instead of a camp! (I'll just add those to this post.)

For my Champion Tier Patrons, you will get the following in this release:

  • 3 Variants: Camp, Grave, Trees

  • 6 Color Moods: Ghostly, Gloom, Dark Fairytale, Night, Sunny Day, & Warm

  • Weather Effects such as: Fog, Rain, & Sun Rays

  • No Lights Version

  • No Trees Version

  • 8k & 4k Resolution

  • Grid & No Grid

  • Jpg & Webp file formats

  • VTT Sizing Guide

I've shown much love for the Dark Fantasy genre this month, so next on my project board will be Sharkfin Bridge from the Saltmarsh series of maps. This map will feature an expanse of a large, cobblestone bridge spanning the river delta, feeding into the ocean. On either side of the bridge will be shops and houses, reminiscent of the Old Medieval London Bridge! This will be a massive project, so for starters, I will do the house exteriors only, but I will eventually update this with the interiors of each shop/home for a fully immersive player experience!

After this, I'll continue my re-work of the Village of Barovia as I still have a few more locations to update and a few more generic maps for a wider range of encounter options.

As always, THANK YOU for your continued support of my work!

Cheers,

DM Andy

Fantastic work, as always <3 Your maps have really brought my long-running Curse of Strahd campaign up to another level. Do you think there's any chance you might revisit maps like these with a snowy/winter variant? My party has been in Barovia for a while now and I think its time I showed them just how brutal a winter in the OG Domain of Dread can be.

Excellent timing! My campaign starts next week!
