I posted this in the comments of the previous episode but I am going to post it again here. This is the American version of One Foot in the Grave. Who remembers this classic scene? https://youtu.be/KkM-NTizuAY?t=724

Any chance of season 3 of After Life when The Royle Family ends soon? Only 6 episodes.

This is the last of the "traditional" episodes. From here on in it's mostly about Victor Meldrew using the Dictaphone to time travel and right wrongs. Very different show but still good.

Daryl

I'm not sure I buy that.... A bit of a leap honestly....

Nice little meta reference in this episode when the littering woman goes into her house and walks up the stairs singing Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life; originally written and performed by Eric Idle, who of course also wrote and recorded the OFITG theme and made plenty of cameo appearances in the show. (In fact, if I'm not mistaken Idle made an incredibly funny contribution to the next episode, which is one to look forward to). It'll be interesting to see what you make of next week's: without wanting to spoil anything or overly hype it up, the episode got a lot of praise when it was first broadcast for the originality and minimalism of the setting, and that critical acclaim helped the show to grow in popularity. I seem to remember it being the first one that me and my family ever watched, so I've always been fond of it personally.

The PC salesman scene was great, you can count on one hand the times that Victor successfully gets revenge without consequence, so it's satisfying when it does happen!

Weirdly, Richard Pearson (Alfred in this episode) played exactly the same role, as an unwanted guest, in Men Behaving Badly (as Gary's Dad). Both roles even involved him finding out that he wasn't wanted! That's typecasting for you, I guess.

aweeesome.

Great episode! You can see that by series 3, the writers had really found their groove. The next episode is even better and one of my favourites!

Rob Walters

Writer..... the brilliant David Renwick wrote every episode himself!
