Not sure if you picked up on it, but the old guy with the dog that they stopped to ask about dogging- Well that's Kenny Snr from Phoenix Nights

Mike Doel

You will also recognise a couple more later

John is played by the same guy who played Keith in Phoenix Nights.

Gareth Hood

Old Ken next door knew the score 😂

I think playing popular music at funerals is quite common place in the UK now, well certainly in my experience. A similar thing actually happened at my Dad's funeral back in 95. We'd spent quite some time picking the song we thought were apt. The song we choose to play as people left was Queen's You're My Best Friend. But we left to Freddie singing Fat-bottomed girls you make the rocking world go round. One of life's perfectly timed jokes. 🤣

Tony Smyth

2nd best present I ever got for Christmas was 'A Night At The Opera' by Queen. I was 14yrs old. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaZpZQG2z10

I would say playing personal songs has increased considerably due to how comparatively secular many funerals are now too. Where, historically, hymns and funereal church music would have been played, gaps are created for people to have the soundtrack they really want at their funeral. I went to a couple of funerals as a child and remember hymns, but as an adult, it's been far more common for hymns to be replaced with favourite songs of the deceased.

Possibly the weakest episode, but with one of the funniest moments (the dogging part). I get the impression they were trying to find a balance with the subtlety of the humour in the first couple of episodes, as the conversations in this episode weren’t that funny. I still like the character building though, but I’m glad they broadened the humour in subsequent episodes.

Tony Smyth

I'm old enough to be compiling a soundtrack for my own funeral, yet wise enough to know that nobody will ever hear it. You can't play The Fall in a church and if you can't play The Fall you're better off with silence.

Any good this? Haven't watched either episode yet and debating whether I should start never really been a massive Peter Kay fan, is it anything like max and paddy or phoenix nights? Which I thought were okay but nothing special.

Josh, at my mother's funeral in March, she went through the curtains to Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life by Eric Idle. She was a character, and it was one of her favourite songs. My Father in law was cremated to a song of his choosing, Feeling Hot Hot Hot. He was a card too. I really miss them. All 4 of our parents. Roy and my mum were both extra funny people though. Don't forget to listen to the car radio on this show, and read the shop names. There are hidden jokes throughout Car Share. Peace brother.

That is interesting man, I like that idea instead of playing the music the person liked instead of just defaulting to church music.

David Lyons

I'm liking the little fake bits on the radio, taking the piss out of the nonsense you get from DJs. I heard "Guess which celebrity we put in the toaster" and "Martial arts actor Pat Moriarty"!

u forgot to put the password on the DM video ?

Will, having never watched this either and being quite skeptical of Peter Kay's output post-Phoenix Nights, I can say that I've enjoyed both episodes so far. Quite relaxing to watch with funny moments here and there but they are “very Peter Kay”, if that makes sense? Not a whole lot of reliance on actual comedy but a lot of reliance on nostalgia and pop culture.

Sam Reeves

Hey Josh, would it be possible to add The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer to the next short-shows poll? =]

Okay thanks Sam you were the sort of person I was hoping to reply somebody who hadn't seen it before and not a huge Peter Kay fan, I will give it a couple of episodes and see if it is something that might grow on me.

I think maybe if you could download a version of carshare online with the 5.1 audio the music might be on a seperate track so when you put it in your video editor you might be able to mute it for YouTube. Not sure where you'd find it though. Failing that maybe editing in audacity I think there's guides to remove music from stuff

As others have said, it's common for people to have their favourite songs or meaningful songs played at their funerals. I've never been to one which played the type of music you described at the end. At my best friend's funeral we walked out to her favourite Belinda Carlisle song, my grandad went through the curtain to a Luther Vandross song that had been special to him and my nan. My mum's neighbour/friend had Another One Bites the Dust by Queen lol I've heard that's a pretty common one actually. This programme might be better off staying a Patreon exclusive, it sounds like a right headache having to edit the music out of it lol. You could always just put a post in the community section on YouTube to let people know it's on Patreon if they're particularly interested in watching your reaction. Thanks Josh, it's my first time watching this too. I quite like it so far so I'm going to stick with it, I think it'll grow on me even more as it goes on :)

Someone you recognize appears in a episode soon

Jon Johnson

I went to a funeral about 7 years ago for a guy I used to work with, he was only in his late 40's but had some sudden brain hemorrhage, poor guy, although his daughter sang at the funeral - oh my god it was so awkward she was an awful singer.

2022-02-03 16:55:01 I live in the area this was filmed. I keep recognising streets and roads but it's weird cos it's all disconnected, obviously for the different takes they have to do. If you want to verify look for a town called Oldfield Brow, near Altrincham on Google Maps. Look for Oldfield Tandoori & Takeaway and go to time 11:37 on the video. Ironically the main Crematorium for south Manchester is just down the road from there, so they maybe got the cars from there to use in this episode. It's called Altrincham Crematorium.
