Wasn't expecting Christopher Eccleston in this!😂 Better known for playing The Ninth Doctor in Doctor Who

I know the third series isn't as popular but I still love it. Joby Talbot (who composes the music) is superb. I suppose with the babies we got Tubs and Edward back in a sense! I did miss them in the 3rd series but their charecters could've easily become a cliche.

It kinda hurts that you only have to wait a week to watch series 4. We had to wait 15 years! Haha! Really looking forward to your reaction though. A lot of characters come back that weren't in series 3 so you're in for a real good treat!

Ash Jeffries

Great reaction, Josh, and just to confirm, that was the final episode of series 3. You have three episodes left, which are the anniversary specials from 2017, and these aired 15 years after the end of series 3, which aired in 2002. Forgive me if I'm mentioning anything you already knew but it was hard to gauge because you didn't mention a huge amount about what happened during the end montage. I thought you may have more comments about it: The Laurence Llewellyn Bowen plaque on the wall at the end suggested he actually died when the van crashed into the wall - just to clarify, he's a real-life person, TV presenter and interior designer from the UK and he appeared in episode 4 at the end. You see him show up with the BBC and then see him take his wig off before the van crashes into the wall and presumably crushes him to death. He doesn't wear a wig in real life- it's just a joke because his hair is his signature and I'm guessing it's just about how pristine and presentable it always is, almost as if it isn't real. I've met him a couple of times actually, seen him countless times, as he used to live in the same town as me, or just outside it anyway. In fact, he may still do - I'm the one that moved away! And in RL he is very much alive and well! Haha! Was it clear to you that it was Geoff Tipps in the hospital bed? Surrounded by friends all laughing genuinely? He'd tried to be a successful stand up comedian and failed, and he always had a major inferiority complex which led to psychotic behaviour to try and get attention - this was quite sweet I thought. He finally got what he always wanted. Barbara (and David's) babies have upturned noses and definitely look like Edward and Tubbs the Next Generation. :-D I was sincerely hoping you'd keep the end credits rolling because of that BEAUTIFUL piece of music over the concluding montage, composed by the superb Joby Talbot. His score for the theme music and most of the incidental music is eerie and dramatic but this was a really serene and pretty piece, unexpectedly so for this show. I didn't *expect* you to keep it running, but I was hoping so! Haha! It's difficult because I am a fan of theme music and end credits full stop and it's unthinkable to me to even consider not listening to the entire tune and read the credits (I'm genuinely interested in who makes the show too, and who is behind the scenes.) But I am guessing for you it's completely the opposite: ergo, it's unthinkable to let the credits run at all, and you're just interested in the show itself! Fair enough! :-D For me, the composer Joby Talbot is the fifth gentlemen within this league - the three performers and writers, Steve, Reece and Mark; fourth gent is writer Jeremy Dyson, and fifth, Joby Talbot, composer. Sixth might be Steve Bendelack, director. He does a great job making the show look the way it does. He also directs some of The Royle Family, incidentally. :-) I do love series 1 and 2 of The League, but this one is my favourite I think. So imaginative, ambitious and delivered with aplomb. Their return 15 years later as you will see from next week and the final three shows is really excellent though. Where some shows / writers just don't have it anymore, these guys never dropped the ball and it's a real treat. :-)

Decent ending, but I don't think it's one of their best episodes. I love how the whole series wrapped up all the different parts in this final episode, especially with the Papa Lazaroo reveal part way through, but the rest of it just felt incomplete. The part with the magician was never really resolved, which was a shame as I think he was a really good character and could have benefitted with a revenge moment showing how he got his camera back. Instead we just see him with it at the end, with no explanation. Also the cinema dog guy and the cat guy scenes felt like filler. I also found the human/animal thing was a bit poorly done for me, as though they stretched the bizarre aspect of the series a little too far. A fairly good ending, but rewatching it just bought back memories of why I felt disappointed at the time. The last couple of episodes are definitely top level though, thankfully. The long wait for them was worth it.

JOSH: I don't think you picked up on it but Papa Lazarou being tied down and "toying" with Brian and Vinnie was a reference to The Exorcist; from Papa Lazarou speaking in Latin, through to him shouting "Meeeeerrrrryyyyllllll", as Linda Blair (or more accurately Eileen Dietz ) shouted "Meerrrrrrriiinnnnnnnnn" in The Exorcist. I also have to confess that Joby Talbot's soundtrack during the closing moments is beautiful and I'm not afraid to admit that it made me well up upon hearing it. Oh, and also the scene with Dean Tavoularis (the magician named after the famous production designer, behind such classics as The Godfather, fact fans) scene, with the cigarette, is quite possibly the most upsetting scene throughout the entire history of The League of Gentlemen, but that's why we love the series; because it's so wonderfully, humorously dark.

Dont know if you noticed Reverend Bernice (who Papa Lazarou kidnapped at the end of the Christmas special) was also trapped inside the elephant at the end of this episode?

I actually recommend that Josh rewatch the very first episode of The League of Gentlemen, in his own time, ahead of next week, just to best appreciate the opening gag of the specials. Then again, I did also recommended that he ought to have watched Blade Runner, ahead of watching Red Dwarf: Back to Earth, but I don't think he listens to my sage like advice.

Ash Jeffries

Yes, it'll be interesting to see if he remembers it! :-D. It's easier for fans to remember as they'd have seen that first episode countless times so are no longer really relying on memory; it's imprinted! But that first episode was 18 weeks ago now for Josh, so...

Simon M

I loved The League of Gentlemen movie and I think you'll really like the range of characters that appear in it. If you intend to watch The League of Gentlemen in chronological order, then the movie is next in the sequence, followed by series four.

Sorry, bud I haven't seen the exorcist since I was a kid. I don't remember much from the movie except the scenes that have been parodied the most. I have never seen The God Father don't judge me lol and the cigarette scene was hard to watch. But I was like it's ok this show is so dark he will probably get revenge and it never came lol.

AfterWorkReactions

Yeah, when I said the last episode I was talking about this season my bad lol. Yeah, I notice the noses that's why I said oh no. But I know you were probably thinking is he saying oh no because Barbara had kids or oh know because he notice the noses. The answer is both lol. The hospital scene with all of his friends laughing went over my head, I thought he was just happy to have a new identity. See how simply my brain is lol. Seems like a missed a few things man dang, I played myself. I should definitely give the first episode re-watch before I end up playing myself again.

Rich Moyse

Perfectly explained about the town being too weird for papa lazarus 🤣🤣

Ash Jeffries

Haha, no your brain isn't simple! It's easy for us to make these observations as we've watched them all several times. I can't remember what I picked up the first time I watched it but almost certainly I will have missed stuff! :-D I think you got more than I gave you credit for in any case as like I say, I just wasn't sure - but just because you don't mention it, doesn't mean you haven't noticed! Haha! And yeah, I was wondering if your "Oh no!" was just because Barbara had given birth but good to know you noticed what they'd inherited physically too! Haha! Glad I clarified Geoff Tipps's scene in the hospital. In fairness, I don't think it's all that clear on first viewing. It might've been had Geoff's episode been say, episode 5, but as it was earlier in the series, it's not as easy a link to make and as obvious what they were trying to convey with the scene! Without meaning to spoil anything, yes, do watch series 1, episode 1 again as it will certainly enhance your enjoyment of the Anniversary Specials coming up! :-D

Season 3 was very different, very brave of them to do so but i loved it, i think it worked, not only are there the anniversary specials to watch but there's a movie and two live shows...all Fantastic.
