So this aired I think 1st January 2010 and the last episode was Christmas 2019 so there really was a 10 year gap, you will certainly see it on some of the faces lol and the picture quality too 👍

Michael Harrop

Thus ends the original run of Gavin and Stacey. You have to wait a week, we had to wait 10 years 😅

luke

Those Kevin Spacey jokes haven't aged too well!

Manly Stump

The guy who followed Pam and Mick into the church was John Prescott, Deputy Prime Minister from 1997 to 2007.

Alex P

Great cameo from John Prescott there!

Hey Josh, the final special coming up next is 10 years later (IRL) if you didn't know already, so be prepared for everyone to have aged! lol

Michael Harrop

The film they referenced is 'The Usual Suspects', widely regarded as one of the best twist endings of all time. They are looking for a criminal called Kaiser Soze, and the reveal of who it is at the end is chilling!

luke

let him watch it himself! you dont need to describe everything before hes even seen it

Manly Stump

Oh yeah, and the poem Mick reads is called "Funeral Blues" by W. H. Auden, but it's probably most famous for being included in the film Four Weddings and a Funeral, which is probably why Dave wanted it at his wedding.

You can see why they initially ended it here. Gavin and Stacey’s journey was complete. There’s only so many ways to get all the characters together before you run out of ideas. They even used Pete and dawns vows as a last resort! That was a convoluted way of involving the Welsh lot, who didn’t really know them. It was a charming series where all the characters are generally decent people and it’s an easy watch. Even Dave who you may root against was a good guy. Overall I liked the series. The special was really a nostalgic thing to see all the characters back together again one last time. I had no issues with that at all.

Joe S

Yeah I like the fact they have also said if they do another one, that will really be it. Likely to complete smithy and nessa’s story as the main point. No need to try and force anything beyond that, British sitcoms seem to show better restraint in that aspect lol

AWR93

Josh just a heads up as a few have mentioned before, the next (and last episode) is a Christmas special from 10 years later!

Chris

I'm crossing my fingers that in 2 weeks he'll be watching spaced

It always makes me smile when the wedding song really kicks in as it’s the song that Kylie and Jason got married to in Neighbours many moons ago, which is why they chose it no doubt. So many funny bits like this is the whole show, but this episode in particular. And I love how their phone call at the beginning is exactly like the opening scene phone call in the first episode…..’only 24 hours to go now babe’. Very sentimental. Great reaction Josh. Thanks for brightening up my Monday evening 💛

This is one of my favourite episodes just because they refer to Noel from the band Hearsay and John Prescott earlier in the series and actually have them cameo in this one. Noel is the one playing cards with Dave and Neil and is also Doris’ new toyboy, and John Prescott is referred to as Nessa’s ex earlier in the series and is a guest at the wedding in this, he used to be deputy prime minister.

Saul

That John Prescott cameo made me laugh out loud. Brilliant. He always was desperate for attention though.

Saul

That was very good. I thought the 3rd series was the best. I don't understand where the vitriol for the show comes from, apart from the title characters, who are pretty gooey. There's something daft about hating popular stuff just because it's popular. I think Gavin and Stacey is often beautifully written, there are some iconic characters/performances, it's got a decent amount of dramatic nuance...it gets better as the show goes on. Don't see too much to dislike. Sure, there are moments where things get a bit saccharine but then I sometimes watch Seinfeld and Curb - even Peep Show, imperious as it is - and think to myself 'absolutely everyone in this show is just an appalling human being', and the relentless cynicism of it all gets me down. You don't have that with shows like this.

Jay

Decent way to wrap up Gavin and Stacey, but I think the special is good enough not to spoil the overall story.

Michael Harrop

This to me is a better wrap up of the story than the special. But I see the special as more a celebration of the characters, seeing into their lives one more time than an ending if that makes sense. It might not be so impactful for you having watched them all together, but I had nostalgic tears in my eyes in the first few minutes of the special haha

I agree man this was a good last episode. I totally get what you mean, with certain shows every character is terrible with no redeeming qualities. In G&S it was easier to connect with the characters because we see the good and the bad so they are relatable.

The annoying thing about this is they showed pretty much all of the wedding service for ness and dave, also Pete and dawn (both background characters) but when gavin and stacey got married it cut the whole wedding out of the episode and moved on to the next scene. Was cool to see john Prescott make an appearance in 5his episode (he's a UK politician in parlement)
