I think for me, although I don't mind the lack of an audience and the removal of the laughter, season 3 suffers from weaker characters than the other two seasons by and large. Or maybe that's just my personal taste.

Since the subject of necrophilia has been brought up, might be a good time to hear David Mitchell's thoughts on it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2B_Yw-JAnuw

I adore series 3 and I was just waiting for the end of this episode (and the way it mirrors the timeframe of the previous episode) to see your reaction. What's great is that this episode, for me, is the weakest of the six from series 3, so if you enjoyed it, it's a fair bet you will LOVE the rest. I still don't want to say too much for fear of spoiling but I think you can probably see what they're trying to do with this now, and your description of these as "mini films" is pretty spot on. I can't wait for you to get to the end of episode 6 whereby you'll appreciate just how brilliantly crafted and clever this third series is. Like you, I also love series 1 and 2, for different reasons, but they've gone all out ambitious for series 3 - a really good idea as it really does prevent any chance of the formula going stale. I don't find Lance a particularly engaging character and this story is the weakest of the six, but it's still a decent episode and certainly a good one by the standards of most TV comedy. It's only the insanely high standards that these stupendously talented gents have already set that give any of us the feeling that this one is slightly underwhelming.... it's a compliment if anything! The next one is my second favourite episode of series 3 (my favourite being episode 6), so you've got some amazing stuff to come! :-D

Agreed. For me Lance was one of my least fave side characters from the first 2 seasons... and a lot of the new characters are just plain boring in my opinion. I still enjoy seeing Josh's reactions though. Getting through the rest of the season will make season 4 all the more worth it :)

This is actually the worst season for me personally, but I agree about the brilliance of the first two ending. Eps 3 and 6 are also my faves and can't wait to see Josh's reaction to ep 6 ;)

It makes perfect sense what you're saying. It's not better or worse, it's totally different. I think another series of the previous stuff would have become too samey. By the way, after season 3 you really should watch the movie, The League of Gentlemen Apolcalypse and then the anniversary specials, as that's the order they come. There's also 3 live specials, The League of Gentlemen Live from Drury Lane, The League of Gentlemen Are Behind You and The League of Gentlemen Live Again. In that order but they can be watched after everything else even if some of them come before the movie and the anniversary specials.

I loved apocalypse too for what it was and also hope Josh reacts to it at some point however as it is considered kind of non canon and something of a side story that doesn't affect any on going storylines in the main series it is not totally necessary to watch it immediately following series 3 (like when it was initially released) and could just as easily be enjoyed once the entire series has been completed. Also definitely agree with you about the live shows- they were all awesome.

If you like series 3 then you'll enjoy their next production, Psychoville. It too has a narrower cast of characters and has a strong narrative like series 3 does. I'm sure it will make the voting list at some point.

I always loved season 3 as it stands alone. The lack of laughter track adds to the unease. So well crafted, and as always, well acted. Psychoville (As Peter above said) is incredible!

You should definitely see if you can find a copy of the League of Gentlemen book that's written as a diary of Tubbs, and is just hilarious and very dark and twisted 😂 It's absolutely brilliant

Series 3 is so far removed from the first two, its a real shame that the show took this odd turn and detatched itself from its roots in the manner it did.

AfterWorkReactions

Awesome, it seems very different but I am excited for it. I do want to check out Psychoville I have heard it is hilarious 🤣

This is probably the worst episode of Series 3, mainly because it doesn't have that many funny parts. But I love how it plays out like an episode of Eerie Indiana or Twilight Zone. A kind of uncomfortable horror comedy that plays on the narrative more than the actual jokes themselves. I get why some disliked Series 3, because they expected more of the same, but I think it was very brave of LofG to go in this new direction. Especially as it's a slow payoff series.

Im glad you're enjoying season 3, it is quite different, but it is still brilliant, everything Reece, Steve, Mark & Jeremy do is fantastic. Hope you will do the live shows later too, a story about the live shows, i was lucky enough to get tickets to their second live tour, i arrived late due to traffic, got in my seat and had an actual camera (no phone cameras then shows you how long ago this was) i took a photo and accidently had the flash on, a security guard came over and said no flash photography to which i apologised, he went to go back to his position but then came back to me and informed me that if i wait out the back entrance at the end the 3 actors are doing a signing, so i did, had it not been for my flash going off and the guard telling me, i would never have got my photo taken with Mark, Reece and Steve, im happy to report that they were all lovely guys too, didnt hurry anyone along, was very happy to see people. I also have a photo with a British Stand Up Comedian called Roy "Chubby" Brown whos real name is ....Royston Vasey, its safe to say i love this show and these actors very much, im glad to witness you enjoying it too.

"Everything Reece, Mark, Jeremy and Steve do is fantastic...." I would agree with that except for their film 'Apocalypse' which was such a let down and Marks new Doctor Who which is utter crap.
