Unpopular opinion, but I really think the gang works as a five piece. Kochanski is no replacement for Rimmer, but she provides that little touch of sanity that Kryten used to have to shoulder alone.

I watched this episode unnecessarily drunk once and came up with a theory. Cassandra can't tell the future she is just an ai that is power hungry and highly manipulative. The things she predicts are either implied by her eg she says the statement before kryten does or could be predicted if she was monitoring people on the ship with sensors like rimmer sneezing or that knot had a bad heart and his blood pressure was high. The reason she tries to make them kill each other claiming its predetermined, she's the archetypal tyrant.

the explanation seemed a bit rushed, just by saying Kryten figured it out, but it's still one of if not the best episode of this series. One of the reasons the American Red Dwarf series didn't work was because they dropped the ball with there version of Rimmer, so much so they tried to bring Chris Barrie over because no one in the States could play such a despicable prick as he could, but the show got cancelled before he gave an answer whether he'd do it.

The guy who plays Kill Crazy, Jake Wood, is known in the UK for also being in Eastenders, but in the US he was the voice of the gecko in the Geico adverts for a few years in the early 2010s.

Could be although doctor who fans at the time said there was no connection and the name Cassandra obviously comes from the mythical character but there aren’t many female characters out there even in sci fi without a body and if memory serves they both had a condescending manner

This was a good episode and there are a few good ones in season 8 and also later. I guess the bad opinions given on the later seasons are by the die hard fans who have seen all episodes and reminisce about their favourites. For me season 5 and 6 were the best but I still enjoed the later episodes.

This is the best episode of series VIII, though that's not saying much. There's a line in this episode which really bothers me. It makes no sense because they edited it. I will refer to my series VIII script book. Here's the originally scripted dialogue... RIMMER: All I've got to do is find someone I can introduce to Cassandra as Rimmer and it will be them that stiffs out and not me. KRYTEN: Such low life conniving, it's impossible not to be impressed. What I wouldn't give to have your weasel genes, sir... permission to leave the room before you utter your next sentence, sir RIMMER: Permission refused. KRYTEN: No, not me, sir. RIMMER: But you're perfect. A mechanoid. Disposable. KRYTEN: But what about our relationship, sir? After everything we've been through, surely you have feelings of warmth and affection for me? RIMMER: I've only known you a week. I don't give a stuff. KRYTEN: Of course. He hardly knows me. CAT: You and me both. KOCHANSKI: Hang on. During the Cassandra meeting, you referred to Kryten as Kryten several times. KRYTEN: Therefore Cassandra knows I'm Kryten and consequently I can't be Rimmer. You'll need some other poor sap to set up. [Rimmer's eyes light up as he looks at Cat] CAT: Now wait a minute! ------------------------------------------- They edited most of that dialogue out, so now the line read is as follows... RIMMER: All I've got to do is find someone I can introduce to Cassandra as Rimmer and it will be them that stiffs out and not me. KRYTEN: Such low life conniving, it's impossible not to be impressed. What I wouldn't give to have your weasel genes, sir. CAT: Now wait a minute! -------------------------------------------------------- The joke literally makes no sense in its edited form!

FUN FACT: Geraldine McEwan took the role of Cassandra because her Nephew was a fan of the show. She didn't particularity care for the show in general, nor know much about it but she wanted to make her Nephew happy. Best Grandmother ever!

Best s8 ep - im the same i love Time travel - ive said this before and i dont think they would win in the film polls - so check out 12 monkeys and predestination for a cpl good time travel films
