Brilliant! I was there in the theatre when it was filmed, the ticket was a present for my 12th Birthday. It was amazing. Can't wait to watch it again.😊

The first couple of live shows are pretty good but i remember it getting really bad from the 3rd one on. Could barely sit through the latter ones.

Bottom live 1, 2 and 3 are good after that you can tell they were just doing it for the money. I liked bottom 3 more than I expected. It was post Rics quad bike accident (that almost killed him) so his memory fails him often which just adds to the comedy

Yeah, in my opinion the first two live shows are decent but after that, both Rik and Ade's hearts clearly weren't in it anymore. I strongly suspect that they were just doing the lives shows for the money by that point. From Hooligan's Island and beyond, the lives shows are generally awful, low effort tripe with none of the insane invention of the TV series (or first couple of live shows, to an extent). Ultimately, the latter live shows devolved into an endless parade of juvenile swearing for the sake of swearing and lazy recycled psychical violent slapstick gags which we've all seen a thousand times before, repeated ad nauseam, with no wit, invention or creativity whatsoever. They just become a pale imitation of TV series, with all of the substance, character work and hyper kinetic surrealism of two lunatics grounded by the relative normality of the world around them removed. Having said that, your millage may vary of course but again, at the very least, I think most people would agree that the first couple of lives shows are decent enough.

Just a little aside but was in London's Chinatown maybe two years ago and who should grab a table next to us? Ade Edmondson! He was doing his solo show in a nearby theatre. I usually hate talking to celebrities but he was such a gent. Had to just say how much I've loved his work over the years (Comic Strip Presents is another great 'series' Josh) and that we all miss Rik so much . But that was that and we then both got on to our hoi-sin duck or whatever! Great reaction, mate. Sorry for the ramble! :P

Josh, i wouldnt take too much notice of what people are saying about rik and ade doing it just for the money after the 3rd show. Its like guest house pardiso, sure it wasnt the same as the series, it was just more of richie and eddie which you seemed to enjoy. The live shows are the same, people have thier favorites and some they like less than others, but ultimatly they are all Bottom at heart. If you like Bottom you will enjoy all the shows. My personal opinion, yes the first one was the best, but the they dont go down hill after that, far from it :)

You actually had seen Richard and Judy during "Extras" in the scene where Steven Merchants character goes on a talk show to defend Ricky's character for having a go at the down syndrome kid.

I'm pretty sure you're going to enjoy ALL of the other live shows, Josh :) they're all good IMO. Btw Play Bus was a kids tv programme nothing to do with Playboy lol that made me laugh. Hope you and Tay are doing good (happy, safe and healthy!)

Memories of me and my friend stealing his Dad’s VHS copy and watching it when his parents went out (we were both underage). As hilarious as it still is, it’s always a little bittersweet now watching Rik and Ade (RIP Rik taken far too young).

Josh, the joke at 41 minutes refers to a famous Yellow Pages advert about an old guy called 'J.R. Hartley' looking for a book on fly fishing. Here's a link to the advert:- https://youtu.be/Zh8iXc2d71U The joke wasn't really that relevant to the advert itself, it's just a throwaway reference, because "My name? J.R.Hartley!" became a British cultural throwaway line that many people jokingly used back in the 90's when asked their name.

Josh - Haha nope, Playbus isn't a knockoff of Playboy XD It's an old British children's television show. The American equivalent would be The Magic School Bus. The joke being that there's nothing to get horny about when watching an animated kid's show, hence "I've had bigger stiffies watching Playbus".

Great reaction, Josh! It's been a fair while since I've seen this so it was fantastic to watch it again! It's all funny but when they mess their lines up and the audience erupt, I laugh so much I can barely breathe at times - laughter is infectious! :-D Everyone will have different opinions on which of the live shows are decent or not and IMHO the first two are very good (I actually think the second live show is better than the first one) but I do think it's less entertaining from 3 onwards. Just a matter of personal taste I suppose! I really, really look forward to seeing you react to Bottom Live 2 if it's on the poll next month and wins a place! :-D

Something interesting of note; when the Rik and Ade "mess up" their lines, it's scripted. This has been attested to by people who attended multiple showings and said that they'd always "screw up" at the exact some points and react to those screw ups with the same "ad libbed" lines. Not to take away from the magic too much, but I think it's an interesting piece of trivia.

God this show did some damage to my fragile childhood mind! I must have been 9 years old when I first watched it. I can recite the first 10 minutes by heart, yet laughing at them breaking character still makes my face hurt, laughing. The Richard and Judy reference is a bit niche but it was Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan who were a couple with a daytime TV show. Richard Madeley is still on TV despite the fact that he's a dyed in the wool dickhead. People are of the opinion that he's the biggest inspiration for Alan Partridge. He's an absolute cringelord. Graham Taylor's been covered but I think in '93 he'd have just missed out on qualifying for the '94 World Cup (USA '94), so the country was pretty angry with him. Poor bloke was treated terribly by the press. Sandi Toksvig is an interesting reference because she's now the host of QI - I'm surprised you've not reacted to a lot of QI but she's quite well liked these days. I think I saw her driving her car out of Manchester recently, actually. Might have been someone else. Weston-Super-Mare is a seaside town in the south west. I've never been but I can't hear the name without pronouncing it like Ritchie does. Playbus was a program for babies on the BBC at the time. The joke being that it's completely unsexy. Ha, monica. Twiddly dee twiddly do.
