Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!    Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!!

Alright, folks excellent second episode I really enjoyed it. The father is hilarious, I think the only joke I missed in this episode was why he called his poo an Eartha Kitt? Is that common slang for taking a poo. At least I believe that's the only joke I missed I could be wrong. Let me know in the comments below what else went over my head. Sometimes a joke is made in a show and it is so beyond me I think it's just part of conversation lol.

Thanks for watching folks !!! Hopefully, you all are happy, safe, and healthy !!

As always I would love to read your comments below

Eartha Kitt... Shit (Cockney Rhyming Slang) 😄

Anonymous

It's rhyming slang for shit

Manly Stump

If you ever come across slang you're not familiar with, see if you can find something that rhymes with it - you'd stand a good chance of getting it right!

Anonymous

"Eartha Kitt" is cockney rhyming slang for "Shit"

Anonymous

"Gary" is a town or city. It's not a person. When Josh speaks about his Mom or Mum warming up Gary, it's not a guy. It is NOT a guy.

Ertha Kitt = Sh!t haha

Tony Smyth

I'm only halfway through and I've spotted 3 jokes so far that I think you didn't get, and I'm not Eartha Kitting you... 1. Worzel Gummidge was an animated Scarecrow in a children's TV series. 2. Mince is what we call ground beef. Mincing is flamboyantly expressing your sexuality. 3. The one about the cigarette smoker not getting a job in a petrol station (gas station). I'm gonna watch the rest of it now.

Anonymous

Flat nosed Alan wasn't allowed to light up a cig at the petrol station 😂

Others have explained the Eartha Kitt slang but yeah as Manly Stump said, if you don’t understand a slang word or phrase then see if you can find a rhyming word that fits the context and even if you ain’t right, you’ve just amused yourself momentarily 🤣 be careful though cos oftentimes people will shorten the standard double-barrelled rhyming slang to just the first word (in standing with the whole purpose of cockney rhyming slang originally) so for example my father would regularly say “I’m going for a gypsy’s” shortened for “gypsy’s kiss” I’ll let you figure out the bodily function that refers to 🙄 but also he might say “I’ll just go get my tit-fer” a shortening of “tit-fer tat” (tit for tat) = hat

Lee

No surprise that the dad is your fave character in this so far, Ricky Tomlinson is just hilarious in this and plays the part perfectly. Glad you’re enjoying the show!

Rewatching this has been great and we're only two episodes in :) This just reminds me so much of growing up in a working class family and the mannerisms/conversations are all too real for that time. It is a slow burn, of course, but it's made that way - like sitting in your own front room with your family. We've maybe grown and progressed from that time but those memories with the family, friends and neighbours will always be there.

Chris

I'm impressed that you even understand the Liverpudlian and Manchester accents. Words can easily get lost when accents are this thick

Worzel Gummidge was not an animated scarecrow. Why would you lie about something like that? On today of all days too, the day we lost Aunt Sally. RIP.

Kieran B

A bit of trivia as the rhyming slang has been thoroughly covered - and just in case you weren’t aware Josh (and I only mention this as you forgot the name, you may very well be aware), Eartha Kitt played Catwoman in the 1960s Batman after Julie Newmar. She also sang the original version of ‘Santa Baby’

Anonymous

Ricky Tomlinson is quality! You need to watch Mike Bassett: England Manager. Add it to the movies vote

Anonymous

I’m ashamed to say I don’t quite get that one sorry Tony, I mean I can only imagine I’ve got the rhyme correct but it’s the source words that allude me; the only thing that keeps entering my mind is Ratchet and Crank from the 90s 🤣

Anonymous

Agreed mate. I watched the full series when it first came out and also watched the odd repeats on uk gold but I’m enjoying this all over again. You forget how funny it actually was for the simplistically of the the jokes and the situation of a family just sitting in one room for x amount of episodes. I think family’s all over the world can relate to it

Anonymous

Does anyone remember the tv show nice guy Eddie in which Ricky played a private detective? I don’t think it was ever re broadcast and doesn’t seem to be available on dvd or download. Does anyone know where I could find it? That was hilarious I’ve been looking for it and wanting to see it again for years but never found it.

A joke that i think you missed and hard to get on to at 1st was when denise leaves the table and Barbara says a lot of companies are taking on non smokers and Denise says well you just dont smoke at the interview🤣

Anonymous

No I haven’t sorry but while you engaged that part of my brain it reminded me of a show called “Ideal” I think it was… Johnny Vegas etc, now that was strange and funny 🤣

Anonymous

I'm going for an Eartha Kitt -> I'm going for a shit.... like Bees and Honey -> Money

By the way I really hope you keep this going, this is my favourite comedy show. There are some other jokes (non name related) that you missed out, but it was in general conversation. They will slide in a cheeky joke without any warning and I think it's down to British culture, the british sarcasms. I think one you missed was when Barbara talks about someone on TV and says "oh who was the guy in the wheelchair?" And Jim replies, "that's Daves dad isn't it?" Because he's disabled.. ah, keep going they get alot better!

CatsandCrafts

Not sure if you can get a book of Cockney Rhyming Slang there, but I’m sure if you google it you’ll get very big lists of rhyming slang terms that you can browse. Will probably come up in a lot of shows, Gavin and Stacey definitely, what with half of them living in Essex. Cockney is like slang for a Londoner with a very thick ‘non-posh’ way of talking. Another great reaction. Thank you!!! As always…love to you, Tay, the pooches and gorgeous kitties! And your Mum….who sounds legendary!!!!!!!

Jim Royale is absolutely Iconic. One of my all time favourite comedy characters. Despite all his flaws, he's just so relatable.

Steve Small

Hey Josh! I'm so glad you're enjoying this. It's one of my favourite shows. A huge amount of the humour in this comes from the knowing looks and glances - You know exactly what the person is thinking about what has just been said; so the payoff for sitting through a boring story Barbara tells, is the look Jim gives at the end. It's not all about the laughs, though. This show is renowned for being heartfelt and honest. Take (again) Barbara's boring story - and all the other pointless things she says - just to keep a conversation going and keep them talking; all the little "awwws"; the genuine looks of pride at her family for seemingly insignificant things, her gratitude and look of awe on her face at receiving broken boots because they will still be newer than anything she already has. She is the backbone of the family and the glue that holds them together. Each of the others have a plethora of qualities and flaws that you will pick up on. You'll come to realise just how fine-tuned the characters are and just how good the actors are at playing them. Oh, a joke you missed... "some places don't even employ people that smoke nowadays"... Then the (very very subtle) punchline was that her mate tried getting a job at the petrol station... and then you realise that's the reason they can't smoke there, and that Denise is too thick to realise that's the reason. Keep it up, Josh. You will fall in love with these people :)

So glad u are enjoying this show It's one of my all time favourites

Tony Smyth

If you're going to explain a joke explain it properly please, in American terms for American people. A Petrol Station = A Gas Station. We'll have no smoking here.

Jason

I used to watch this show if and when it was on but never really sat down to watch it in order or anything like that. It's better than I remembered and I'm really glad you're enjoying it so much.

Anonymous

I love that you’re enjoying this. From memory it only gets better and never dips in quality. Great stuff!

Spooony

I'm so happy that you understand the show. I don't think I've ever watched a comedy that has felt as real as the Royle Family.

Anonymous

Can’t wait for you to meet Norma. Her and Jim are class together.

Anonymous

Nothing more boring than wedding talk, then proceeds to talk about his buddys weddings for however long it was, couldn't tell as I fell asleep. Only messing. Glad you reacting to these, I never really watched this before and quite enjoying them.
