I’m sure this has been said but the last names are all notorious serial killers in Britain. Shipman, west, sutcliffe. I think some people in media genuinely thought it was a coincidence at first lol but obviously the writers James and Ruth did it on purpose

Poor Josh getting all these names thrown at him LOL! Most of them are UK tv presenters like Kate Thornton Cat Deeley, or UK soapstars like Pauline Fowler which is a character from Eastenders soap, an old lady. I`m guessing you got Sharon Osbourne since The Osbournes are so popular over there. Nice reaction again, thanks!

I think it's really great that you research any jokes you don't understand, instead of just forgetting about them. It shows your genuine interest in immersing yourself in UK (and other country's) culture, and appreciating comedy in general.

I like this show but it just feels more like a soap opera to me and not sure that's entirely Josh's thing. However It's nice to watch it through again and Josh is enjoying the characters and story although it's not a huge laugh. Felt bad for Josh as there were so many names dropped in this episode he wouldn't get and it happens often in shows like this where there are so many specific pop cultural references from the time it was made. Might be late to ask now but since you haven't said anything have you noticed that Bryn is Rob Brydon (the host of Would I Lie to You)? and Smithy is James Corden obviously the presenter of the Late Late Show in the US?

I love how Smithy and Ness are the two most unlikeable characters in this, yet in REAL LIFE they were the ones who wrote it. ... Love Stories begin in Weightwatchers. It's easier to type than it is to exercise. (Shut up... it's a joke. One of my next door neighbours is fat.) Pass the ketchup on the left hand side.

I wouldn't say it's like a soap. More like a Drama with Comedic intentions as opposed to a sitcom.

With the whole Dick Powell joke - the rabbit hole you went down does feed into it as Bryn says this in passing last episode "They had a daughter, Carole, i don't know what became of her..." . She could have been one of the adopted children sold onto rich families. Like a lot of the serial killer references in the show it's all a coincidence in the end but i do like the fact that they cram those kind of jokes into quite an innocent sounding script!

It's very average. The first episode was promising but it really hasn't got going yet. I'll still give it until a few episodes into the 2nd season but needs to improve a lot to get me hooked!

The subtlest jokes are the funniest. It's very easy to miss them on your first watch. {SPOILER ALERT} For instance, in the scene around 7:30 where Tracey and Ness are reading magazines and they both have hair-remover on their upper lip, Ness has some on her cheek. You wouldn't see that on Friends.
