When I was homeless I used to go through skips and bins for stuff. I'm looking at that skip and see so much money in it, people just think it's trash. I pulled out thousands of Motors once, they were worth £150 each brand new.... got 20K for them lol. I still have that money in a savings account, I didn't spend it and I stayed homeless lol. Apparently Siemens stopped making them, some big company in Milton Keynes wanted them for opening and shutting vents. I look back at those days fondly, but I'm not in my early 20s any more.

I used to drink the Larger Kev is drinking, Tennents Super. It used to be 9 percent or something, like drinking bottle of wine almost lol. I'd buy it cause I'd see it for under £1 per pint and it only took 4 cans to get you hammered.

Think this is my favourite episode ... Kev and that dog sculpture has me in tears every single bloody time😭..Bless him. Whatever prop guy/girl actually put those sculptures together has talent 😂!

The dog looks too happy to be put down. If your dog is moving, don't put them down, stop listening to vets, they're con artists. You only do it as a last resort, where they're in pain and there is no recovery.

Hesketh

I seen that for the third time now and still gets a tear that dog sculpture bit

Daryl

Damn what a shitty day. I knew the dog sculpture would get you. The song playing is by Idlewild, one of my fav bands.

luved the reaction Josh especially the strategic tear blocker you mentally placed when you worked out that the dog may be put down and you were doing so well Lol, and like me and other viewers many of us didn't get pass Kev 's robotic dog without sheding a tear great writing great reaction looking forward to the next.

“Can I be a power ranger in heaven” cheered me up so much after watching that ep again 😭 hope you’re well Bud

Is it just me or is it weirdly satisfying to finally see Josh tear up after so much time and a handful of near misses? Been a long time coming! I know you're not big on crying (especially on camera!) but it's all good, dude, let those floodgates open, we won't think any less of you! I've seen Derek before but I'd forgotten about the dog sculpture, got me too! (So well written; how you side with everyone against Kev for the whole episode only for him to surprise you at the end!)

My man I barely noticed it got you through the blurring of my own tears… yes, you managed a little longer before your eyes started leaking than I did haha I’m glad you finally broke my guy cos it broke me in the last episode too (I think) I’ve only seen Derek once before when it’s last season ended I binge watched with my Dad and we both loved it!! He passed 2 years ago and I think of him throughout these videos… keep up the good work mate!!

Yeh that really annoyed me, they could have waited a few weeks/months, the owner knows when the time is right.

I know you try and hold back the tears Josh but it’s healthy to just let it go. The last few weeks watching Derek and Afterlife with you I think I’ve teared up at every episode despite seeing them all before. I can’t remember how the last episode goes but I look forward to it knowing that asshole new caretaker is probably going to get what’s coming to him

This episode also got me in tears a couple of times, first I was sad when Derek was crying, then Kev got me with the dog sculpture/robot and then I was also so sad when Hannah broke in tears. This was a really great episode and I enjoyed very much in your reaction and I am looking to the next one.

I cried with you mate...this is sad as hell. Last time I properly cried was when my last dog had to be put down (he had heart failure, no "con artist" *eyeroll* vets) - it really is one of the saddest things having to say goodbye to a dog.

Violet Linnington

What kind of teacher tells a kid their pets can’t go to heaven? Damn, sounds more like she’s the soulless one

This is a real tearjerker of an episode. The dog being put down is quite predictable from the outset but it's played out really well and it does show off Ricky's acting chops yet again, as per his begging not to be made redundant in The Office and apologising to Maggie on Celeb Big Brother on Extras. This was even more emotional for me as I adore dogs and it's devastating watching them being put to sleep even if it is the kindest thing to do. I think that scene was just simply very sad and relatably upsetting but the dog sculpture knocked me for six in a whole different way. You cry for different reasons there and it's a mixture of emotions: Kev has such awfully low self esteem and yet he is capable of so much in truth. He is a kind soul and an amazing friend to Derek. We cry at that scene because of the overwhelming kindness being shown, and I think more so because it comes from Kev who doesn't believe he is any good to anyone. We are overjoyed in a sense that we see such a different side to him and wish we could see it more often and wish he realised his own worth. I do feel Derek as a whole lacks the subtlety and detail of The Office and Extras but it's episodes like this that a) benefit from a slightly heavier handed approach because it fits with the story and characters; b) simultaneously offers up more detail and nuances just in the character journeys being explored. I think Derek was Ricky's departure from (foray into) dispatching of cynicism, something The Office and Extras had in spades, as beautifully written as they were. It betrays the usual set up of British comedy whereby the protagonist is somewhat unsympathetic and avaricious for much of what they don't have and Derek embraces the goodness in people at the forefront with the greedy, narcissistic and nefarious at the sidelines.

Steve Small

Hey Josh. I got a bit teared up at the same place. Perhaps it wasn't "the dog sculpture" that got you. For me it was that Kev is considered a worthless person by most people in his life, and with this gesture he was able to show his worth. Show that through all the smut and unthinking comments, his heart is truly in the right place. He cares and is caring. You get a glimpse of the real Kev through the fog created by alcohol. All these thoughts and realisations, to an empathic person, will often bring on an emotional response. Have a great day 😊

Josh I knew derek or afterlife would get you lol still a few more episodes of after life to go too glad you are “enjoying” them Ricky’s writing and production can be so funny and then so sad next episode. No one else like him for me

Josh

Oh my gosh your sunday school teacher sounds so mean saying that!

what makes it emotional isnt what is predictable ,and how kevin was a menace throughout but his actions was for a good deed and it was not expected ,whats what makes it tear jerking
