I haven't heard of this. Going in completely blind

A couple of factoids to contribute: one is the bassist is played by Harry Shearer, who is one of the main voice actors in The Simpsons (Mr. Burns, Smithers, Principal Skinner, Kent Brockman...) and the other is that most of the dialogue in the film is actually improvised!

I assume the person comparing this movie and "What We Do in the Shadows" were probably referring to the deadpan delivery of saying ludicrous things, which adds to a lot of the humour in "WWDITS", quite similar to the series "Flight of the Conchords" which I recently suggested, which makes sense, as some of the same people were involved in those two works (FOTC & WWDITS). Also FOTC is also a musical comedy series, but not a mockumentary. I highly recommend that series but also the movie WWDITS, I haven't actually seen the series of that but I imagine it's very funny, I'd love to check it out someday

Brilliant, Christopher Guest who plays Nigel Tufnell is actually a British Lord, he used to have a seat in the House of Lords till it was abolished - he was born in New York so has US citizenship too. As others have said the dialogue is mostly improvised as you can see by some of their genuine reactions at times - like the response to ‘shit sandwich’. They had hours of unused footage I believe The famous 11 on the amp is why BBC iPlayer’s volume control goes up to 11... Ricky and Steve cited this as one of the main influences for the Office, even though their use of mockumentary format initially was a happy accident (it was cheaper to film).

This would be a VERY GOOD time to promote Bad News, which was a Comic Strip one-off featuring Rik n Ade (Bottom etc...) It goes a bit like this: https://youtu.be/7ZSOB-bUwCU until it had a sequel, called Bad News 2. There's not much else to say.

Hey Ben. The 1st series of What We Do in the Shadows is excellent and a great successor to the film, but I think the 2nd series takes a huge dip in the quality of the episodes.

Hey Josh. Now that you've seen Spinal Tap I think you'll appreciate Best In Show, which is another mockumentary by Christopher Guest.

Keith Pratt

"That dude looks familiar" Better Call Saul is where I know him from, he plays Chuck.

One of my favourite films ever. It was actually the last film I saw in the cinema, it got screened at a place in London in 2019. I'm really looking forward to watching the reaction. It's also one of the most impeccably observed films ever, it absolutely nails the absurdity of heavy metal and the touring life. The story goes that a lot of famous musicians saw it and didn't think it was funny because all the ridiculous situations in it hit too close to home for them, there have been a number of real-life incidents that mirrored Spinal Tap or could have easily been scenes in it. There are a couple of documentaries that came out after it, Decline Of Western Civilization 2 and Anvil! which are about real musicians but are often compared to Spinal Tap.

I'll second that, 'Anvil! The Story of Anvil' is definitely worth watching, although I've not seen the former (DOWC2). The Metallica 'black' album from 91 is a definite nod to the 1984 Spinal Tap soundtrack (essentially 'Smell the Glove' noted in the movie)

On IMDB the rating for this film goes up to 11 🤣 love this film soo much

The dvd commentary for this film is just as funny as the actual film, they do the entire thing in character. Great reaction dude, always enjoy watching these films with you!

Mike Tocci

Also - A Mighty Wind, For Your Consideration and Waiting For Guffman. All by Guest with much of the same cast in all four films.

Metallica: Some Kind of Monster reminds me of Spinal Tap. It highlights the colossal egos of several of the band members and the conflicts between them while making a studio album. Although it's not meant to be funny, it had me in stitches occasionally while watching their childish antics.

Daryl

"You can't dust for vomit" That line really had me and my mate 🤣 Looking forward to this when I've got some time in the week.

Adam C Turek

There's a great story about Liam Gallagher from Oasis going to see Spinal Tap play live, it was there that he learnt they weren't a "real" band and only actors. He then stormed off in a huff.

Jay

Talking of the Director Rob Reiner (who plays Marty DeBurg in Spinal Tap), the run of movies he did in the 80's to the early 90's was incredible. Spinal Tap, The Sure Thing, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men. All of them gold.

Charlie

Decline is an interesting watch, it's centred around the Sunset Strip scene in the mid/late eighties and is now considered to have been instrumental in basically destroying eighties glam rock as people were turned off by the vulgar excess and egomania portrayed in it. The first Decline Of Western Civilization is really good too, and pretty much explains why punk rock in Los Angeles in the late seventies and early eighties collapsed in on itself.

Scott sage

All songs from this movie are available :)

Scott sage

His solo is so bad lol , thinks tuning the violin a bit will work lol

Steve King

Hey Josh, if you want more Matt Berry can you add "House of Fools" to the next comedy series list. It's short and also features Vic and Bob as well as Berry and is mega goofy and think you'll love it

Super Mega Giga Chad

Stone cold classic way ahead of its time. Seems like actors could ad lib around a general idea in some scenes. Maybe I’m wrong and it was 💯 scripted but feels different, like curb your enthusiasm.

AfterWorkReactions

It was hilarious man I loved it. A few others did say some scenes were improvised so I do believe you are correct with the ad lib.
