Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!    Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!!

This episode was good but it wasn't pretty lol. Tim breaking up with his girl, Brent begging to keep his job, and Tim going all in and being told no tough stuff. Well, Gareth has his new lady and a chance to run the branch so he had a pretty good day lol. Also, Sheila came out and said she likes blacks lol, maybe she will ask old boy out. She was giving him the looks. I still wonder if Dawn and Tim will end up together, I guess I will find out soon with the specials.

Thanks for watching folks !!! Hopefully, you all are happy, safe, and healthy !!

just out of interest mate i know youve said you watched and enjoyed the US remake of the show as well, itd be interesting to hear how you found each version as in similarity to brent and michael scott etc

Dawn's spoken for and is moving to the States...Tim should have stuck with Rachel. Lovely girl

I thought that was a good evaluation of people sometimes choosing the wrong moment to do something because they don't always have the strength to do it and can't choose their timing.

Toby Lewis

Good to see Steve’s dad make an appearance again, he’s the bloke in the blue overalls, although I won’t be the only person in these comments to say that😂

Don Roshi

Tim was no longer invested in Rachel. He rolled a crit miss. He did the right thing by him and Rachel. She didn't deserve coming second. It was messy, but at least honest.

Another great reaction Josh, I love your conclusions at the end as well man. I know you have seen a lot of gervais stuff now, but the next 2 Christmas Episodes are the pinnacle of his writing and acting combined. After I have seen the series multiple times now, the next two still surprise me how good they are. I think a couple of people have said the same but

lemmy101

Surprised you didn't react to our girl Sophie from peep show as the interviewer there! :D man this episode gives me the feels, bear in mind also when this first aired it was known to be the final season, they stated that like fawlty towers they would only ever be two series so as far as I knew this was the end and had no idea there was going to be an xmas episode to wrap up. Quite a somber way to end lol but feels very appropriate for the show nontheless, that's life.

Mick Mills

Great, thanks for this. Just the special to go for the series. Will you do the David Brent 'Life on the Road Movie' at some point? Sorry if you already mentioned those in this episode, I haven't watched it yet. Also interested in the answer to Lee's question, how you think Brent and Scott compare, also Gareth and Dwight, Jim and Tim, Pam and Dawn and any other you can think of.

17:50 that’s Steve merchants dad

BelladonnicHazeyJaneII

Great reaction Josh, this episode was hard to watch lol. Really looking forward to the specials.

Toby Lewis

Such a big difference between this and the US version. Jim and David Wallace, tears in their eyes, “it should be Dwight.” In the UK version Tim’s talking normally and Gareth’s messing about with his daft toy🙄

Starting to panic now as we're gonna be ricky gervais-less in two episodes time! Such GOOD specials btw. You're in for a treat! Fingers crossed 'Derek' makes it to your line up soon. I need my 'gervais' fix each week!

Anonymous

No idea what Tim was thinking here, you always keep someone in reserve, you never just burn your bridges like that. Now he's gonna be horny and desperate, like the job market, you're always more attractive to other employers if you're currently employed.

Lee

Brent begging for his job really is hard to watch, I hope Derek goes on your next poll. Karl Pilkington is also in the first series of that!

Super Mega Giga Chad

Brents line “oh I don’t go around using chicks and shit” cracks me up for some reason. I love his acting when he is trying to be cool like when he is speaking to the guys smoking a joint before the motivational gig. In the opposite end of the emotional spectrum I love when he is being scolded by Neil or someone and has that sad face and says “yeah” barely opening his mouth !

Louis Hessey-Antell

Whatever you do, don't use the US version as a guide! We're in a different world over here!

Charlie

Probably one of the saddest episodes of The Office, you see both David and Tim's lives pretty much fall apart in the space of the single episode, and Dawn resign herself to probable disappointment. It's both hilarious and crushing seeing the look of immediate regret on Tim's face after Gareth brags about getting the manager's job. One of my favourite jokes in this episode is where David rattles off the list of places he can go after Slough, but it's another one that translates badly outside of Britain, and even outside of a certain area of Britain perhaps. All of the places he listed are within spitting distance of Slough, but are as insignificant as Slough if not moreso. I remember Taplow used to have an abandoned hospital that was popular with urban explorers, bored teenagers, and local crackheads, and that was pretty much the only thing of any value there. Even that's not there anymore. The pub Tim mentioned before making fun of Gareth with the girls, the Jolly Farmer, actually exists, there are two pubs of that name in fairly close proximity to Slough so I've wondered for a while which one it refers to.

Mick Mills

Derek first then After Life would be great. Although After Life not over yet. Maybe 'Lifes too Short' would be a good one.

Super Mega Giga Chad

I know many people maybe don’t love the US version that love this, the original... but I think it is great and really funny if in a different way. What really stands out for me about the US remake is that the pulled it off. It is really hard to do. Almost all fail ... think US inbetweeners or worse the attempted US version of peep show ( you can find bits of the pilot online ) the smaller dude with glasses from the big band theory plays Mark and he isn’t terrible but the writing and vibe are just so not rainbow rhythms and the way they do jez is as bad as an attempt to do and overseas version of a show.

Super Mega Giga Chad

Nice post mate. I’m not English, and I agree that the joke doesn’t translate well to a US audience. i get the joke about the crappy areas in proximity to slough. I remember the first I saw this ep, like 15 years ago, laughing at that talking head bit from him.

Yeah, this episode stings to watch 😔

dubs

There is a David Brent movie called life on the road with David Brent its not as good as the show but if ur fascinated on what happened after the redundancy its a good one to look at

Chris H

It's because he's a good person and stringing someone along while you look for someone better is a shitty thing to do to them.

Austin Stratton

I put this in a DM to you also but some of the other Patrons might want to check it out so I'll post it here too.. here is a link of every XFM show Ricky, Stephen and Karl did.. full radio shows with the music cut out.. 101 hour long episodes :) It's honestly all gold.. So if anyone wants 101 hours of Karl, here you go :) https://covchump.com/index.php/xfm/

Tell Tay thank you and that I am very flattered by the message, she is a beautiful girl, but I am sorry,I am only interested in blacks

Kieran B

Ricky did a 10 minute Comic Relief special called the Return of Brent you can see here if you wanted to watch that (takes place before the movie Life on the Road) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kROd6JZ98I

Oh that's cool, after all these years and I never knew that. 😮

Ash Jeffries

Great reaction Josh! This is a great episode and you're in for a treat for the two episode finale. The last twenty minutes of the last episode is for me, Ricky and Steve's best writing to date. As annoying as Gareth is I always found Tim's teasing of him a bit mean. That said, Tim really did prove that it is just that and he doesn't really dislike Gareth deep down by asking Neil to offer him the acting up position. Then Gareth throws it back in his face which is charming! I also cringed when he dumped Rachel at work and it was awful timing but I think you're right about his worrying about chickening out and making the situation worse by doing so. It's a tough call. David can be utterly insufferable but you do genuinely feel for him during the redundancy meeting with Jennifer and Neil. He finally stops pretending and promises to change and he'd usually be far too proud and obstinate to do that so you know he must really mean it. It's tricky because I think he does mean it and means well in general but his insecurities and vanity will override anything he promises in the moment. He admits he's been complacent but the trouble is that he would probably revert to this however many chances he's given. This is no doubt where Nell and Jennifer are coming from and why they skipped from three strikes and you're out to an offer of redundancy.

Steve King

"As annoying as Gareth is I always found Tim's teasing of him a bit mean." When The Office first aired I was in my late teens, a bit of an "incel" and far from the popular guy from the school I'd just left and whilst I was no Gareth either, I struggled in those days to be #teamtim like the show was urging me to be. I sympathised more with Gareth and found it hard as someone who wasn't getting any (much like Gareth) to sympathise with Tim's dilemma considering he was dating the hottest girl in the office, had the other hottest girl interested in him and was actively trying to break up another relationship. :D That's what I've found so interesting about revisiting the series as an older, wiser and much more experienced in matters of the heart man. Although my point still stands that Tim's a lucky bastard having both Dawn and Rachel fancying him..I just rather envy, as opposed to hate him, for it now LOL

“Put David Brent is Refreshingly laid back for a man with such responsibility” 🤣🤣🤣

AfterWorkReactions

That is awesome man I am looking forward to it. I have been hearing the Christmas special is really good so I am excited.

AfterWorkReactions

Thanks bud, I have the movie on my list so I will be checking it out at some point. I do see many similarities but they are different. I for sure will do a better breakdown once the whole show is finished =]

AfterWorkReactions

Thank you, yes this one was a harder watch than the others. I hear the Christmas episodes are great though so I am looking forward to that. Take care!

AfterWorkReactions

That is very true, it is hard to redo another show in different countries and have it be sucessful. The US Office is very popular here so I do think they did pretty good with that. Thanks bud take care.

Cant believe nobody commented with all the Karl fans here too, but when David said towards the end of the episode 'if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain' and said it was Dolly Parton lol. It was actually Karl who once said that during one of their XFM broadcasts when ricky and steve were getting him to come up with inspiring quotes 🤣🤣
