Spoiler Free:  Excellent episode, a strong start to the second season.

Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!    Spoiler Alert !!!!   Spoiler Alert !!!!Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!! Spoiler Alert !!!!

Dude I had to look Ms. Richards(Joan Sanderson) up, she is so good at playing a bitter old lady lol. She has been in a lot of stuff from 1951-1992. The only thing that was familiar was the Muppet movie well by name alone I have never seen the movie. She will be added to my list of characters I love to hate lol. When Basil was trying to tell Polly the name of the horse I cracked up. Especially when he pointed at his crotch and she said small and when he ran off as soon as she got the name right. My favorite scene was him taking his shirt off and having a mental breakdown. I have to use that kiss to God next time something good happens to me.

Thanks for watching folks !!! Hopefully, you all are happy, safe, and healthy !!

Ryan Lynch

This is my favourite episode of all 12

Manly Stump

I would've kicked Mrs. Richards out of the hotel so quickly! And the Samaritans is a charity aimed at people suffering from emotional distress; essentially a suicide prevention hotline. They'll be mentioned in an upcoming episode of something else you're currently watching so be good to know (vaguely) who they are.

Such a great episode:) when you said about you'll be using that kiss to god etc it made me wonder if you've picked anything else up since watching all these British programmes. Like have you accidently said 'bloody' or used another slang word you've heard, accidently or that you've adopted on purpose? Thanks for the reaction as always.

Gary Tamblyn

That’s my favourite episode as well, glad you liked it. “Well may I ask what you expected to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically across...” Most of Series 2 is better than Series 1, although Series 1 was brilliant. So 5 more classics ahead. 🙂

Joan Sanderson is the old lady...died in 1992 amazing actress! Love that episode! Its when Sybil throws coffee at basil and it hits the major square in the face!! 🤣🤣 he keeps up the acting despite this! Fantastic reaction as ALWAYS

Gary Tamblyn

As an interesting side note, John Cleese was married to Connie Booth (Polly) in real life, whom he co-wrote all 12 episodes. They were married during the 1975 first series, but divorced before they wrote and filmed this second series in 1979. So glad they were still able to work together to give us an extra 6 brilliant episodes.

Yeah it's top three for me. My other two are later to come in this series.

"The Samaritans were engaged" line has been explained by someone else in the comments. One of my favourites. Fantastic episode. The way everything is brought together at the end is so brilliantly done. Basil headbutting the till to open it is just wonderful. "Satisfied customer, we should have him stuffed."

David Lyons

I never even noticed the 'small' gag back in the day, it's true how you notice extra details on repeat viewings. Ditto the Major taking the coffee all down him like a trooper!

Saul

My favourite episode. It's the episode that springs to mind whenever I think of Fawlty Towers. 'Is this a piece of your brain?', 'it's over there between the land and the sky', 'I know nooothing', 'what exactly were you expecting? The hanging gardens of Babylon?...' All iconic lines.

Saul

Amusing to see the reaction of someone who's worked in the service industry - I could see Josh getting genuinely irritated by this ur-Karen, presumably because he's had to placate that kind of horrorshow of a person before. NB: 'customers' is an anagram of 'store scum'.

Michael Harrop

Such a short show were nearly at another poll Please let Phoenix Nights win, I love Ricky but it's a much better show than Derek.

Manly Stump

He's not doing another show on Sundays; he's going to make Sunday movie night when Fawlty Towers finishes.

Brilliant episode. Best so far.

Andrew Manford

That was a laugh and a half !!!!

“I know nahting” 🤣👍

Fun fact: the actress who played Mrs Richards made extra money after this by getting gigs as a mystery-shopper/customer service trainer. My mum used to work as a bank cashier in London in the late 80s, and they hired 'Mrs Richards' to come and visit her branch :D

The samaritans are a Charity And have a phone line in the UK you can ring if you're feeling severely depressed all suicidal and they will talk you out of it.

AfterWorkReactions

I have said bloody a few times and brilliant a bunch lol. Totally not on purpose but I think these shows are rubbing off on me lol

AfterWorkReactions

This was a really good one man I enjoyed it a whole lot. I have been hearing the next few episode are hilarious. Thanks bud take care.

Adam C Turek

Ithink when they finished the first series Cleese and Booth didn't expect to be commissioned a second series as they had no ideas for it. They Divorced and spent two weeks on the plot of each episode before they wrote any dialogue - there hard work paid off as this episode shows how tight the writing is. but Cleese made it very clear they had no interest in a 3rd series as they had explored all they wanted to and end on a high.

antlermagick

As someone who lives in Torquay, I can confirm that we have the seaside, the hanging gardens of Babylon, and herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically, all right on our doorstep.

Hi Josh glad your enjoying the show.

when Basil says the Samaritans are engaged you said that went over your head Samaritans in uk are a group you can call if your stressed out suicidal or just want someone to talk to but it's a 24hr helpline service so Basil saying their engaged was the joke

Mrs Richards brings out PTSD in anyone who's worked customer service.

David Broome

Really enjoying your reactions and binging at the moment. You have such a refreshing positive attitude and your observations are intelligent and open minded. Thank you.

Mrs Richards - the original Karen

Some 45 years after it was first released and my family still quote Manwell every time any of us need to say the word, "Eventuuuualy..."
