The new alternator and battery got me an hour west to Ausia's for now. Still need to determine the charging issue though.

Have fun! Thanks for letting us know you made it safely.

Was the battery recently disconnected while the engine was running? That could take out an alternator, which would take out your battery out obviously. You could rig up a temporary voltmeter that you could put on your dash to keep an eye on exact voltage it's putting out. Should be around 14.3 volts while driving. Under 15 volts though.

Good luck in finding the problem. Hope it's nothing too hard to figure out. My mind keeps grinding at it.

i was an Interstate Battery route guy for a decade, Wayne is spot on !!!

You could just check it at the regulator with a volt meter and make sure it's not over or under voltage. Have someone hold engine rpms around 2000 to 2500. A new alternator comes with a new regulator since they're built in so if that's it it should be fixed. And if it was overvoltage your battery would be pretty obviously boiled over.

No, battery wasn't disconnected while running. I do like your voltmeter idea being more precise than the dash indicator

Its great that you have friends with homesteads located here and there in these wonderful parts. And to be able to reciprocate for them when they visit. The now semi-nomadic community evolved.

Hope It's not damage you didn't see from the rats..
