First time to be ever first

Anonymous

I didn't even see the new episode yet! Good job Pateron!

Anonymous

Well. Aftershow is up but where’s the actual show...?

Anonymous

Turning on notifications in the dankpods YouTube: nha Paying a dollar a month so you get a notification for every new video: yea

Kenneth

no i am in trouble. i havent seen the main video yet but i got this notification first D:

Anonymous

Wow toys r us, that's been a while ago

Anonymous

If you donno actionman is the UK gi joe

OzRetrocomp

I can't wait until Dank shows us a vintage World 4 Kids catalogue.

ImHereTooIGuess

I have that black and brown dog at 3:24!

Anonymous

Jesus, that PS2 would be worth over 800 freedom eagles nowadays!

Anonymous

Wow, a few months before I was born lmao

Anonymous

I was a little 9 year old during the greatest era of toys and games...that I couldn't have 😭 OMG the poochi dog I had one and I loved it 😭😭 "memories in the corner of my eye" 🎶

PlayerN

PS1 good. Got myself one kinda recently for a surprisingly cheap $30 AUD. All cause the spindle comes off if you're not careful

Anonymous

That PS2 adjusted for inflation would have been $1100 in 2021 AUD... What!

Anonymous

So no one's gonna mention WTC in the corner of the front page uh

NetherLynx

Wait if it was Christmas 2001, then why are twin towers in the picture in the star at the front.

Anonymous

This is hands down the best video ever 😂😂

Anonymous

Like number 69 lmao. Also great video

Anonymous

It was in September, so the magazine was probably already designed and produced before they were attacked (just not released). Magazine companies usually do stuff a season behind. Summer catalogues in the winter, and winter in the summer.

Anonymous

Well that was a fun blast from the past. Were these prices in US or AUD? I don't remember the PS2 being that expensive. Then again I was much too young to care at that point.

Anonymous

I have a Meow-chi, know it still works too...it's in a box..somewhereeee

Peter Shillito

In the UK, "lay-by" is a small bit of parking on the side of a busy road so that you don't block traffic. Usually just parking and maybe a toilet (rather than with shops, which are "motorway services" or just "services"). When I first watched the video I thought this was a Toys-R-Us on the side of a highway or something like that. In Australia, and please correct me if I'm wrong Dank, "lay-by" is a type of finance sorta like buying things pre-pawned. You pay in installments and then, when you finish paying, then you get the item(s). I think that's an Australia-specific thing, or maybe a 2001 thing, cos I've certainly never heard of that sort of finance arrangement. It's usually getting the item immediately on credit, which you pay back in installments until the debt is cleared.

Anonymous

Hmm I think I'm going to have to figure out how I can play conkers bad fur day. Also buzz light-year star command!

Anonymous

Those Australian prices are crazy my man

Anonymous

The nostalgia is real

Anonymous

Action Man is just GI Joe with a new name in Britain and places like Australia. They kept that name for some stuff apparently.

Auroraboy95

Those driver games.

Azguella

being 90s kid and seeing stuff that we got in this catalogue brings back memories of things I didn't even remember we had

Anonymous

Aaahhhhh Driver. How I loved you

Anonymous

I have had worked retail and I can confirm that you get yelled at by customers for doing your job all the time :D. Don't forget about the people who say, "I know that you are doing it wrong because I used to work here."

Anonymous

Hmm, Christmas 2001. Nothing major happened that year in the “Toy Centre of The Universe.” Well except for that incident that turns 20 this September

Anonymous

I was waiting to hear more about why ToysRUs was at the side of the road too! Thought it was some special setup because they were so busy selling PS2s and Xboxes all Christmas!

Anonymous

That’s probably what my parents looked through to get me my very first Christmas presents!

Anonymous

YES MY BROTHER GOT THE TECHNO ROBOT DOG THAT YEAR WOOOAAAHHHHH WE STILL HAD THAT A COUPLE YEARS AGO

Anonymous

Seeing those Lego Bionicles got me in the nostalgia feels

Anonymous

We need a sister reveal

Anonymous

i would fucking lovee to see dank do a toy review of that robot

Anonymous

Part of me is glad because I wondered why Dank didn’t mention GI Joe. But part of me is sad that Action Man isn’t a cheap knockoff of GI Joe.

Anonymous

where frank

Anonymous

Do I smell some Bear in the Big Blue House Stuff here soon :D

Anonymous

0:40 OMFG I HAD ONE OF THOSE. It was basically a furby but it had this dumb robot voice and you could program it to do things but the programming had to be done with a website and an aux cable and i think it had mini games on it... damn this was a long as time ago...

Anonymous

GBA and Bonkles! Fuck that takes me back!

Anthony

I think I actually had that Toy Story Racer game. It was pretty fun from what I remember

Roshanek

> 2001 > "Vintage" God I feel old now...

The Thunder Ghost

BROOO Loved the Army Men games as a kid. Especially Sarge's Heroes 1 and 2. Dang fun games. Thanks for this nostalgia trip dude!

Anonymous

THE PRICE OF LEGOS THO!!

Anonymous

I forgot betty spaghetty existed before I saw this... I miss her

Anonymous

Always remember to leave your like on the bonus video

Anonymous

"oh man 2001 toys there better be some bonkles in here" BONKLES 30 SECONDS IN

Anonymous

Holy shit. Normally I don't comment on the Patreon stuff, but this had to be a preprint, before the shopping season started. This was the Christmas season of 2001, and the World Trade Center is still there. Most media removed the WTC at this point. So it's definitely interesting to see it here, if it wasn't a preprint.

Anonymous

oooh my maty i have exactly that PSone and PS2 when i was a kid lol i still have them stored in a nice box 🤣

Anonymous

Don’t diss the Thunderbirds bro they were the stuff

Anonymous

Holy the PS2 was expensive. I forgot how expensive those things were🤣 I just rebought one for $32 the other month

Anonymous

Ahhh the year I was born!!

Anonymous

The Toys R Us in my city held on to the very end. Then Pet Co. came and shot it lol

Anonymous

What about the bat tree with eyes next to the bike? Guess it’s not a Pkcell.

Anonymous

Wow, I had so many of those toys as a kid. Including the translucent pink and blue gba's for me and my brother, though never had or played any of the games advertised.

Anonymous

Thank you for funny things to laugh at on a bad day!

Anonymous

OH MY GOD, I completely forgot about Tekno the robot dog, I had one, and I loved him! BUT, are we not gonna talk about how this advertisement meant to give everyone the warm-fuzzies for Christmas has the World Trade Center printed on the New York skyline just 3 months after... you know... That certainly does not inspire Christmas cheer...

Anonymous

I'm a simple man. I see Thomas the Tank Engine in a DankPods after show, I like

Anonymous

Man my sister had that exact Electronic cash register toy that takes me back to better fays

Anonymous

i wasn’t born 😳😳😳

Anonymous

Man, it came out in 2001 and the cover has NYC with the twin towers in the skyline - that's a big oof

Anonymous

Which is strange, because by the time it was even remotely Christmas season it had already happened?? Maybe it didnt matter enough in Australia?

Anonymous

I had one of those lego bios when I was a kid I got it as a prize from boy scouts

Anonymous

Bruh, thise robot animals look like the ones that were on zooper doopers

Anonymous

I forgot how much this magazine was apart of my early childhood. I remember every Christmas going through these marking what I wanted from and grandparents. That's for bringing up some good memories.

Anonymous

Damn I had the Hot Wheels Spider Slam back when I was like 5?

Anonymous

I remember Techno puppy but I never new any kid who had the expensive version, just smaller cheap version

Anonymous

that catolog is as old as me

Anonymous

Haha this could have been the source of some of my first ever Christmas pressies, down to the fact teatree gully was our local ToysRUs

Anonymous

The left skateboard design is actually just traced Bonk artwork from the PcEngine.

Cheeky Cheeky

I had the pod racer lego kit, that stuff was lit

Anonymous

I think i still have the impressive looking cat one

Anonymous

I had to pause and take in the gameboy ads.. I was 8 when I first saw them and it took me back so damn hard.

Anonymous

"That kid is fully cooked" 🤣🤣🤣

Anonymous

Me pregunto si escribo esto en español el australiano barbado de los ipods lo entenderá

Anonymous

Oh wow, I actually had that cash register toy, nice

Anonymous

Such a nostalgia trip!

Anonymous

Why is there cyrillic letter "Я" on the cover?

Anonymous

Oh man, I remember so much of that stuff. Definitely got one of those weird Tekno iron dog things, but there was a “budget friendly” version that released that was remote (wired) controlled, it walked forward and nothing else. Also it’s funny that in the US we had G.I.Joe instead of Action Man. I miss this time period.

Damon Mackay

My mum had (probably still has) an action man.

Anonymous

Oh hey, I was like 2-3 weeks old then lmao

Anonymous

Thank you Mr Dank man You brought back so many memories from that catalogue I have memories of going through the toys rus or Myer catalogues and asking (more like forcing) my parents to go and buy me things like hot wheels or Thomas the tank engine or lego or something that I saw and I wanted. This video bought me back to a time when things didn’t matter and having fun was your only job

Anonymous

I HAD THAT BLOW DART ACTION MAN oh man good times

Anonymous

Still have my GBA, want to mod it with a modern screen at some point, chuck in a totally legal cartridge with absolutely no roms on, and play away.

Carrow

I love how Dank just ends the After Show vids at literally any point now lol

Shy

they must have printed that before September, lol

Anonymous

My brother had that hotwheels spider slam thing.

Anonymous

the fact the dreamcast was already dead by then is so depressing

DrBagPhD

Heck yeah! I've been rebuilding my PS1 collection lately (my wallet despises me) and this is so appropriate <3

Kindred Spirit

I absolutely lost my shit at "Are you feeling it yet?"

Anonymous

So much cool stuff!😍🤩

Anonymous

This was a trip, I had some Action Man game that I got out of a cereal box. And I had that exact cash register toy.

Anonymous

Tony Hawk, CLASSIC, never played it.

Anonymous

Congrats On 800K keep on going Dank

Chef Oso

I remember saving up all my Christmas money that year just to get a PS2 and a memory card. We then rented everything. Metal Gear Solid 2, Tony Hawk 3, Bloody Roar 3. It was the bomb.

Anonymous

Holy crap what a blast from the past. I remember so many of those toys, especially the robot bird. My parents had to exchange it the day after Christmas and the new one still didn't work quite right. I think I had one of the dogs too at some point. This whole video was a trip!!

Anonymous

I thought I was the only one who noticed that! I came to the same conclusion but man it’s trippy to think about.

AJPRIME TECH

Wow. My childhood returns. Oh boy, oh boy!! I think I saw some classic bionicle (I don't know how it's spelled) predecessors!! I'm impressed by how much my childhood is coming back to me. I wasn't allowed to have a PlayStation or an original Xbox or an Xbox 360 when they came out. GOSH, my parents hated those things. I did have a Wii system, so that was in my favor lol!! I miss those days lol

Mo Hussain

Right in the nostalgia nuts. Holy shit life was fun as a kid

Anonymous

I really like the advertisement about their new store in New York, and telling people to go to it. Around Christmas time, in 2001. 😳

Anonymous

Man, I had an "Xtreme" scooter exactly like the one in the picture, and seeing all the game consoles and other stuff from back in the day, nostalgia kicked in hard but in a good way. Thank you Wade, you're awesome <3

Anonymous

I actually thought that the Army Men game was a dream oh my god.

Danny Sullivan

$700.... hungie buck-a-boos 😂 but then 😲

Anonymous

You should review the newest taotronics earbuds! The 94 is the next version of the 79, I belive, because they're not selling the 79's anymore

Anonymous

They sold accessory sets for the Idog. It had little outfits. Mine had a hat and a scarf and there was a matching sock for your iPod too.

Anonymous

4:10 I. Have. That. Train. Set

Anonymous

Fully baked

Anonymous

man i had a lot of these as a kid. the snow bionicle dude, the izone camera, extra crappy poochi dog....

Anonymous

the twin towers

Anonymous

I HAD the gungan patrol kit

Anonymous

i had an action man pair of glasses at one point

Anonymous

poo jokes ftw

Anonymous

oh Gods why does it have the twin towers if its CHRISTMAS 2001 toys r us you had one job

Anonymous

I have the brown lego technic literally on a shelf by my bed lol

Anonymous

Dude please do more of these if you can, this was such a huge nostalgia trip for me, thanks dank ❤️

Anonymous

Dude same, I wish this video was longer it took me right back to when you didn't have a care in the world it was trip for sure.

Anonymous

I almost feel like it would be worse if they were just like "welp we'll just crop them out I guess"

Anonymous

Duuude army men brought me back. Anyone just spend the whole time screwing around with your friends in the minefield?

Anonymous

I actually had the barbie vw beetle and it was a cheaply made piece of crap. When I was around 5 I fell off a chair and landed on the thing and it broke, the thing literally shattered into pieces (I had to go to hospital as a chunk of it got stuck in my leg)

Anonymous

'That kid is fully cooked' made me laugh so hard I choked on my water and almost died. Thank you for making my first Patreon experience worth it

Anonymous

I remember the Toyworld catalogue from when I was a kid it had a competition in It to win some prototype Lego Bionicles

Hime Takamura

Oh man I had one of those robot cats (the big chonky one, not the tiny cheapo one) and I recall it being fun for about an hour before my sister and I got bored with it.

Anonymous

Wow I'm Swedish and born 93. Still a hell of a nostalgia trip!

Anonymous

I still can’t hear the offspring without thinking about crazy taxi, what a stupidly fun game that was

Anonymous

Oh my god, the Tekno pets. I had the cat when I was a kid, and I had it for ages. It eventually got lost, sadly :(

Anonymous

As soon as I saw the Action Man and Bionicle figures I was hit 9000 grit nostalgia hammer. I was like: "HECK YEA! Action MAAAAN!"

Anonymous

these aftershows has all sort of weird stuff

Anonymous

please do another one of these

HorizontalVertigo

THUNDERBIRDS WILL ALWAYS BE CURRENT *WADE*

Anonymous

I got my OG PSX from good ol Toys R Us. It came with granny turismo and ff7 and I didn’t touch ff7 for 6 months

Anonymous

Oh god, I had the Poochi Dog

bismuthalienated

The prices are so weird. Not even accounting for inflation, just the comparison. Basketball hoop and scooter are around $100, PS2 is $700, board games are $30, the robot pets are $100. I feel like a lot of things are cheaper today, and a lot of things are more expensive today. Today monopoly is like $20 and the robotic pet things are like $300.

Anonymous

Are those usd prices or aud?

Anonymous

I had the exact same cash register. My granny bought it in like a plastic waste store in Poland. I still have it somewhere :)

Anonymous

Had the robot dog as a kid, thing really sucked at fetch

Anonymous

Those skateboards reminded me of the crappy artwork on knockoff Tech Deck's.

Anonymous

It's a bit strange that the cartoon picture of New York City on the front cover still included the World Trade Center as this was printed just a few months after 9/11

Anonymous

not dank talking about how every school had that stereo, me wondering why my school didn't; 'items not available in townsville'

Anonymous

I don't know how appropriate it was to make a competition where you could win a trip to time Square, New York... in 2001

Anonymous

Man such a nostalgia trip. Especially the videogames page.

Anonymous

Got drunk and watched, can recommend.

Anonymous

oh mate you feelin' it yet? i dunno mate i dunno. oh mate im feelin' it though.
