My quest to create a great movie poster continues.
Heathers is easily one of my all-time favorite movies. Despite being almost disturbingly prescient, it still holds up and I think it speaks to something that most people can relate to. Everyone in highschool feels like an outsider. Everyone hates their friends sometimes. Everyone is ashamed of having had succumb to peer pressure at some point in their life. And many people have been in a relationship that was very hot, in spite of (or because of!) being VERY bad for us.

The header image happened because I remembered a still life photo that I'd put on instagram a million years ago, which would be a good fit for a Heathers image. Not really a poster, but a good spot illustration that would work as a sticker or button. And an excuse to use one of my favorite quotes from the movie.

But for the actual poster, I wanted to capture the idea of "us vs them" and the violence that kind of feeling can breed.
Croquet is a symbol used to great effect in the movie. It's a game that's considered high class but is also fairly brutal, in that actively sabotaging your opponent is encouraged. So that seemed like a good place to start.

Not a bad idea but a little meh. And maybe too obvious?

Given JD's badboy appeal, I thought something kind of based on an old tattoo style could work.

A cute idea but still kinda meh. And, again, more of a spot illustration than a poster.
I also have a half-joking headcannon that JD is actually a Tyler Durden for Veronica (which is to say, he's someone she's made up to embody her darker feelings.) So I thought I could subtly incorporate it into the poster.

So we've got the Heathers/Veronica divide, and JD and Veronica kind of bleeding into each other. But there's a lot of empty space in this design and I wanted The Heathers to seem more threatening. Playing with the scale of the figures wasn't really getting me what I wanted so I took a bit of a break.
On my break I was watching an illustration class that reminded me to try different perspectives (duh.) And I also remembered that it didn't have to look in any way realistic. Suddenly I knew just what I wanted to do.
I couldn't find photos of The Heathers from the angle I wanted, so I went with the search term most likely to give me that shot; Giantess POV. Hence the um, different models.

I really like this idea. It gets across the themes I wanted, and reflects the over-the-top feel of the movie.
It'll probably take me a while to draw and paint this, and I still don't know what sort of background I want for it, but I think this is a good start.

Giantess POV Heathers is the perfect vibe!

Thank you! It'll be a challenge to draw but if I can make it work it'll be really good.
