Harm's Way

Harmony is desperate to find out who framed her for the murder of a demon rights activist who was mediating an important truce between warring tribes on Angel's behalf.

One of the biggest takeaways from this episode is how people usually see the world and the people in it and why. In a regular episode, we have more patience for Angel being cranky and Spike being an ***hole because we've seen enough of them being the centerpiece in their own stories/episodes to understand reasons why they are that way and have empathy for it, whereas Harmony is usually just annoying and funny because she only occasionally pokes her head in to be that way. Here, we're following Harmony and following her day and personal issues, so Angel being essentially a guest star who pops in just to make her day worse by being cranky or Spike popping in just to be rude to her is met with less patience. All the empathy is on Harmony because we've seen enough to know she doesn't need their **** on top of everything else, and all we see of Angel/Spike is their crappy attitudes as opposed to a normal episode where all we see is Harmony's ditziness. It's hokey but I think a lot of us would have more patience for the people who are thorns in our sides if we could see an episode of a day of their life. Spike's reasons for staying are a little flimsy but they need SOME reason for him to stay when he's no longer physically bound to the city, and he's always been a sentimental sap. I liked that Harmony had that moment with him at the end where he's the one who cheers her up. Spike being emotionally (and sometimes physically) abusive to Harm when they were dating was more understandable when he was soulless, but one of the things I don't like on rewatches is how he's still casually awful to her for the most part after the soul as well, so I'm glad there's a little something to put a warm kind of closure on them. Also, Angel would have decapitated Harmony so fast if she came to him first lol
