If not for anything you just gotta to be in amazement at the sheer audacity of Daemon murdering his own wife, simply to crash his niece’s wedding party as a celibate, after he was expulsed from King’s Landing by his brother…And then grabbing her aside in the middle of her own wedding party in front of everyone at court and starting to make out with her right in front of his brother’s salad! Lmao Viserys couldn’t even believe it his look was like “can you believe this shit!!!” Daemon Targaryen earns several trophy in the art of giving zero fucks I swear. And Rhaenyra is the exact same… Rhaenyra literally was like: “shut up and take me out of here right here right now!” Bahaha And I heard people say before it was a joke or whatever…nah nah…From a girl that’s what you call a CHALLENGE or a ‘shit-test’, Coz she was -clearly- not opposed to that happening as reckless and crazy as it was…And that’s why like I said before Daemon and Rhaenyra are both raging mad but in my opinion the best for each other. BTW I really like the thing of Rhae and Daemon speaking to each other in Valaryan, it’s not only endearing but it’s really realistic you know, being bilingual it’s so relatable that with family we will switch between English and French, but when you say something close circle or meant to be more or less intimate you revert back to your mother- tongue…Love that touch

I really like this episode, and the tension was almost tangible. With so many characters and motives by the end going around during the dance scene and escalating in tension. At the beginning of the ep we see Alicent still on the fence about Rhaenyra, but during this we see the clear shift in perception. I like to believe that her entrance (Among the many great Throne Room entrances we had this season.) was important as I think it marked an unofficial beginning to the Dance of Dragons.

favorite episode of the season, and ep 8

Viserys only meant Rhaenyra & Laenors first born will change their name to Targaryen after they take the throne. The rest of their kids will stay Velaryons which is why its a good compromise. I love Daemon and the fact that he was the only one not to stand for the queen. He has no respect or love for the hightowers lol. Also the guy who saved & carried Rhaenyra away was Sir Harwin Strong, the new hands eldest son and heir to Harrenhall. Hes the same guy who was impressed by Rhaenyra killing the boar, he smiled and nodded to her with respect. He also is same guy who caught Rhaenyra running off from Daemon in the streets in ep 4. So he's had a few moments with Rhaenyra. Rhaenyra definitely wanted Daemon to marry her above all others. Criston was just fun.

Notice how daemon doesn’t stand up when alicent enters the throne room lol

I loved the early seasons of Game of Thrones, really loved them. However this show oozes George RR Martin in a way that Game of Thrones never really managed to. Feels so much more authentic, a different culture, where GoT sometimes suffered from feeling more like modern people thrust into a medieval setting. Probably good for getting the masses into fantasy they'd perhaps normally not have gotten into, but this really nails the fact that this is another world, another time. It's also right square into the whole court intrigue and politicking stuff that GoT veered away from that's what attracted me to the world in the first place. I knew when I heard this adaptation was coming that a) it had great potential despite a lot of people being down on Game of Thrones and b) it would be a very very tough one to pull off. Was amazed how well they managed to adapt it. Watching you react to it is great as you've always totally 'got' it, always see the subtext in scenes other reactors tend to miss. Loving this! Just sad I don't have seasons and seasons to look forward to due to only one season being out atm. Wish I was into the other shows on the channel, but not my genre so am envious of those who do enjoy them and I hope you do more of these types of show in future!

Everytime Daemon returning after exile is my favourite part😂. He's like I'm with groom's party 😅

In case you didn't know this, the episode title (We Light the Way), refers to the official words of House Hightower. Certainly, with Alicent's grand entrance and "The Green Dress" (btw thats literally the title of her theme song on the soundtrack), the Hightowers are clearly making themselves known in this whole political battle.

Episode 8 is absolutely one of the best TV episodes iv’e ever seen period!

Bran Flakes

If there was a weakness to this season, it's there is no episode 5.5. The big time-skip coming in episode 6 is so jarring and abrupt.

RiShinMarco

Let me just say that for now and I will elaborate it after the last episode of the first season! Sir Christian Cole in my opinion is the biggest contradiction in the entire show HotD and the book Fire and Blood...

Brandon

Why would you spoil that the episode before it happens?

Bran Flakes

There's no spoiler. Tell me, what plots have I spoiled?? Even before the series started, there are tons of stories about a time-skip in the middle and they show the younger and older actresses. I know it can be beneficial coming into the episode knowing this.

No, you assumed it could be beneficial, but not everyone feels the same way as you, it would be more thoughtful to leave out any information that pertains to future episodes. It is a spoiler to discuss events that happen in later episodes, even if the writers themselves do it. And for the future, I would suggest that if someone says you're spoiling, even if you do not believe it to be a spoiler, delete your comment (or edit it) anyways to be safe because the longer it stays up the more likely Sofie is to see it. I hope this doesn't come off as rude but it's just I see a lot of people do this, and it's usually too late to do anything about it. If we keep giving everyone leeway to discuss episodes she hasn't seen, then a more serious spoiler is bound to show up.

Brandon

Sofie is extremely perceptive, I think she would’ve caught on pretty quick. Sofie had no idea about the time skips, hence her reactions to episode 3 and 4. Talking about a huge time skip just before it happens is not beneficial, it’s a spoiler.

2023-07-06 00:20:10 I totally agree with your comments at the beginning about Otto putting his daughter into the problematic situation she is in. Not only did he promote Alicent to become the next queen, immediately following Aemma’s death, he also pushed really hard for Viserys to name Rhaenyra as heir in order to push Daemon out of that position. He is directly responsible for causing the situation where Alicent’s children could be in contention with Rhaenyra for the throne. And now he is telling Alicent that Rhaenyra will have no other choice but to kill her children!?! I loved your appreciation of the wedding. I agree that the costumes were fantastic. I especially love Rhaenyra’s dress and hairstyle in this episode. And BTW, you were right that the two dragons arriving for the wedding were Princess Rhaenys and her son Laenor’s dragons, named Meleys and Seasmoke respectively. If I have one complaint about this episode, and it is one of my only ones for the entire season, it has to do with how they handled Criston Cole. I am totally with you about questioning how he was allowed to just walk out of that wedding. This is a small change from the book. In the book version there was a tournament held to celebrate the wedding. And it was at this tournament that Criston ended up killing Joffrey Lonmouth with his typical weapon, the morning-star. In that scenario it is much easier to make the case that Joffrey’s death was an accident. Even if some people had their own private suspicions about his personal motivations. I can understand why the show did not want to put on a second tournament after the one in the first episode. They must be extremely expensive to stage and film. But to let someone, even a member of the King’s Guard, walk away from a royal wedding feast after brutally murdering a guest of the groom seems unbelievable IMO. I think they could have fixed this by putting him into custody and placing him in a cell. The same scenario could have played out where the queen comes upon him just before he commits suicide. I think that would have been much more believable than letting him wander out of the feast and end up in the garden in front of the Weirwood tree all by himself.
