The whole Valery storyline is not to put difficulty on Stefan and Caroline relationship, that as you've seen is now pretty solid, writers are clever then that, but it is to explore their life as human, to complete the brothers' story and has other motivations that I can't say to avoid spoilers. Yes Lilly might be more prone to have feelings for Stefan because when she "died" he was the baby of the house, not so much with Damon that suffer the full extent of her choices being the older son. The fact that Stefan land Damon life could have been different, it's something that is very interesting to explore and is so deeply sad that Stefan could have been a father. Also I may add, Damon Bonnie and Alaric trio is such an hilarious and very satisfying combination, I love it.

Valery wasn't really his first love was more like his first time, he didn't have the time to fell in love with her. But when Katherine arrived, let's say he knew what to do in certain circumstances already, it didn't feel like Katherine was his first, if you think about it. In the book Stefan was engaged to someone before Katherine.

You're so right that Lily sometimes softens with Stefan, but just doesn't with Damon. She just doesn't seem to have any love left for him and it's really sad... :( I did love Damon telling her that he found himself a new family too, and then looked over at Bonnie and Ric. I love that trio so much! Also, please don't kill me but I ship Stefan more with Valerie than I ever have with Caroline... (I just prefer Stefan and Caroline as friends...)

honestly tbh valarie being "stefans first love" is just a new writing they added. They should've been mentioning her in s6 before throwing it out there cuz it makes no sense, they just added it to give her character more story and importance. We all know katherine is his first love no matter how much he denys it. The doppelganger prophecy is meant for both to have love at first sight to continue the bloodline BUT story wise valarie would be his first real love cuz it wasn't fate and it wasn't the universe forcing it

Valery is not his first love, is just the first time he had sex, he was smitten and so was she. It's not written as if it was LOVE, was a kid crush, first time sex. Then he fell in love with Katherine and he didn't seem to be inexperienced if you think about it, did he?

Finally catching up on TVD! And I actually really like the story of Valerie/Stefan. 1. We only hear Valerie describe their relationship as true love although it is maybe alluded to in Stefan's journal. But honestly, I think it was the most ~ human ~ love we have ever gotten. Obviously, Valerie was a witch, but there was just something about their relationship that was so simple and pure - light, almost. I don't think Stefan was in love with her, (maybe Valerie was with him), but she was his first time and he seemed to care a lot about her. So, I buy it for now. Julien is so horrific, I hate him, I hate him, I hate him and I hate Lily too. Malcolm was dope though! Sad that Valerie killed him although I completely understand why!
