El Diablo Robotico

If the love of my life was harboring someone that had held my mother hostage, took over my body (whilst I was being led to watcher jail), had sex with my boyfriend, and threatened my friends (not to mention all the pesky things like trying to kill me, my boyfriend, and, oh yah, help a demon mass kill my classmates), I'd be pissed too. Angel doesn't own Los Angeles, he literally just got there. #TeamBuffy

Part 3 is missing :’(

I’ve always felt that although Buffy’s behavior in this episode seems out of character, it’s not unrealistic given the circumstances. She was more angry and more hurt by what Faith did than we’ve ever really seen her before, and that can make people lash out in ways that we might not expect. I know that there have been times that I’ve behaved in regrettable and irrational ways when angry. Even good people can be mean sometimes.

So glad you got to this two part story, Enjoying watching your journey 🙂👍

A lot of people don’t like Buffy’s behaviour in this episode but you gotta look at it from her perspective. We, as the audience know what Faith is going through so naturally you’ll emphasise with her, as far as Buffy’s concerned (understandably) she doesn’t care what Faith’s going though considering what she did to her. Angel’s somewhat hostile behaviour towards Buffy definitely has something to do with the fact that he just found out that she’s moved on, so he’s obviously upset about that too which only exacerbated the situation. I personally believe Buffy is 100% justified. The ending scene however goes back to what I mentioned above, Angel’s mad that she’s moved on, hence his bitter attitude, she’s mad that he’s not having any of it so she decided to go for the low blow knowing it’ll hurt him. I like Faith (second favourite after Buffy) but let’s not forget the awful, terrible things she’s done people. Idk why some people always act oblivious to this, it’s infuriating. Wesley of course had every right to turn her in but didn’t, that’s VERY big of him considering what she did to him (it couldn’t be me) and it’s character growth! Back in S3 of BTVS he was the first one to turn her in! I’m glad Faith turned herself in, she had to. Otherwise as Angel said she’d be running for the rest of her “life”. Your reactions always put me in a good mood, it’s almost 2AM here I was supposed to be in bed an hour ago, thank you! 🙂

I agree she's justified... I just don't think justification always goes hand-in-hand with the "right" thing. Sure, she has every reason to be pissed, she's earned it. But, she didn't NEED to be so aggressively hurtful. She has the right, but she doesn't need to flex it. People always respect the one being the bigger person more. As for Angel, I think he was pretty reasonable until Buffy was actively trying to hurt his feelings... then he got grumpy. I'm totally with you on Faith and Wes though.

angelcakes

i just noticed that Faith is basically wearing a darker version of buffy's outfit.. little throwback to when faith was buffy's shadowself in s3

Don't worry Sofie, it's not the end.

Bisibia

Jeeez Sofie... you make me cry at episodes I never have before lol And totally agree with you on Buffy's "someone that I love" comment. She's never said she loves Riley before... it was definitely an exaggeration for impact.

Alexis Cardarella

Yeah I think if we missed the entire arc of Faith these last two episodes, even jumped straight from watching Buffy to where she walks in on Angel and Faith, it wouldn't feel so severe (her behavior). But also, I think she was jealous, something we don't see often, and so very petty- something we also don't see often- and that is out of character for Buffy- but not in the sense that she's not capable of that. You know?

Alexis Cardarella

Also I think it's very surreal for fans to see Buffy on Angel- that alone throws you through a loop!

Martin Waits

Wesley is approximately 1000 times better on Angel than he was on Buffy.

Alex

I agree that Buffy feels a bit out of character here - more antagonistic than she's ever been on her own show, combining all her worst qualities at once, but we got a glimpse at her unforgiving nature in season 2's "I Only Have Eyes For You." In that episode, she saw something in the ghost that she identified with (feeling guilt over the "death" of a loved one). I think it's the same thing here – unforgiving due to overwhelming empathy instead of a lack of it. When she tells Faith to "shut up" on the roof, I think she realizes how much she understands Faith. Buffy can identify with the isolation Faith is always feeling because being "the one and only slayer" is isolating in itself, no matter how many Scooby gang members you have. We're always our own harshest critics, and I think Buffy criticizes those she identifies with more than she criticizes anyone else.

Rey Gallogo

Probably because Angel treated him better than Giles and the Scoobies did.

Martin Waits

Fair, although the main reason I find his character to be much more interesting on Angel is that they made him less of the slapstick comic relief and into more of a serious character with real depth.

Shaun Houghton

I dunno Martin, did you watch his dancing? Or for that matter him putting his axe into the wall? I'd say the jury is still deliberating. However, here he does have more room to breathe, so to speak. Fewer characters, and not "competing" with another watcher. We are getting a more rounded picture of who Wes is.

Nicholas Corgan

Right. Between 1x14 ("I've Got You Under My Skin") and this two-parter, we're only just now getting an idea of what a more serious Wesley is like, so there's definitely some of the comedic Buffy-era Wes still in there.

Raven Dark

The "Faith wins again" thing from Buffy means just this. Faith came into her life and upturned it, initially managing to win over her friends and her mother. In the Buffy two parter, she tried to take over her life. She emotionally tortured her, and essentially raped both her and Riley. She got away after that, which feels like she won. This time, it looked like Faith managed to get Angel on her side on top of everything else. It feels to her like Faith won again, by getting Angel on her side, even if it's just on the level of friendship.

Rey Gallogo

Faith also won by not letting Buffy take her to Angel after Buffy stabbed her. She won at end of part 1 of the Buffy episode when she switched bodies. She 'won' again when she ran off at the second episode leaving the mess Buffy had to deal with. Although Buffy technically won the general fights against faith, faith always ended up getting some kind of figurative "middle finger".

Raven Dark

This. This is why it sort of bugs me when people think Buffy is just out of line. It's like people forget what she did to her. And then she walked in on Angel, a guy she is still going to have feelings for (you never forget your first love), to see them hugging, and then Angel sent her home, appearing to take Faith's side. I'm not saying what Buffy did was right, but I get it. And I don't think it's remotely out of character. I never have.

Faith didn’t win anything. Buffy got a life with a boyfriend who was real, who she loves.. Something about what every girl dreams of a few episodes back. Angel is a tortured soul and he needs to be doing exactly what he is doing. His whole life journey helps define Wesley - who has definitely grown a pair, and a Cordy who is spectacular. Plus he helps other people. Buffy doesn’t actively go out to help people. She stops them getting hurt. Big difference. At the end Faith is in a prison cell, part real, part of her own mind staring into the darkness reliving all the memories of things she has done. Clue, no jail cells are that dim. I don’t get how she won anything there. It’s a heck of a lot easier to get over being hurt than it is to get over hurting other people. Second point. Why the heck do the Baddies in so many movies have to be British, the Essex henchman here make some sense, the entire OWM watchers are Brits. Jasper and buddy in 101 Dalmatians. But Jafar,? Scar,? don’t get me started on Star Wars. It’s just not fair.Oh well. Love your reaction as always hun 💜💜

Alix

Great reaction! And maybe this is just the Buffy/Faith shipper in me reading the episode like this (though, you know, someone's gotta!), but personally I think that part of the reason Buffy is *so* angry about Faith and insistent that Faith can't be redeemed is because for so long she DID really want to save and redeem Faith, to bring her back to the light. And it never worked, for so many reasons--reasons that were both of their faults, and also matters of circumstance out of their control. So it hurts her even MORE to see Angel seemingly succeed where Buffy couldn't--especially after Faith has just hurt Buffy so deeply that she finally convinced Buffy that she was irredeemable. So Buffy's got this conflicted mess of feelings about "why was Angel able to save her when I couldn't" and "she can't be saved because she hurt me so badly and I just want to hate her" and her own guilt for stabbing Faith that she has been trying so hard not to feel, and Buffy's not in a place where she can handle the nuances. So instead she digs her heels in and lashes out at Angel and insists that Faith is irredeemable. (And yeah, I do think this is also about her feelings for+about Angel, but mostly I think she's lashing out at Angel because of her complicated feelings about Faith, and not vice versa.) (Also also, there's definitely a part of me that wishes Faith could've joined Team Angel and searched for redemption that way, rather than prison--but it's worth pointing out that Faith asked Buffy how she could make things better, and when she didn't get an answer, she did the one thing that Buffy had told her to do earlier: go to jail.)
