One of my “candy episodes”! I watch this one every Halloween

Raven Dark

This episode is a lot of fun. There's so much to love, among other things, Oz's one-liners and Anya's costume and her fear of bunnies. Did you catch the one line from Oz? When that wailing stopped and Buffy said "Thank the Lord," Oz said, "You're welcome." Oh, and the way they've been sprinkling in those guys in the fatigues throughout the season is great. I think the part with Buffy in that basement with that zombie guy or whatever he was supposed to be was meant to signify a second fear on top of Buffy's fears of abandonment. She was quickly overwhelmed by those zombies or vampires or whatever those things were that attacked her. I wonder if that wasn't meant to show a more subtle fear of being overwhelmed by the evil she always has to fight. The guy also said, no matter how hard she fights she always ends up in the same place. I think that is meant to imply that the battle never ends. That she never really wins. We saw a hint of that in season three, in Gingerbread, when she said to Angel that she just keeps fighting but she never really wins. Oh, and I just thought of this now when I saw the part about the door and the window disappearing on Anya, and she couldn't get into the house or get to Xander. I think maybe the house didn't just do that to keep the others from being rescued or escaping. I think maybe the house was tapping into a fear that Anya has. In that earlier episode, Anya said she was over Xander and he just kind of said okay, like it didn't matter to him. He was just telling her what he thought she wanted to hear, same as she was with him. After, when she came to talk to him and started to tell him how she really felt, he said he didn't have time because he was dealing with the whole Spike and Harmony thing, but Anya clearly took that to mean he didn't care about her. In a way, it must feel like she can't really be with him, or she isn't really reaching him. So then in this episode, she literally couldn't reach him. That part was meant to indicate Anya's fear of always being apart from him even when they're together. It's interesting. Loved this reaction as always.

I love this episode! Nothing to fear, but "Fear Itself"!
