Paul Wesley deserves an award for best sad puppy face on the show, that ending scene is quite hard to watch

Time frame two days to the funeral Damon was saved and Stefan left town with Klaus. Two month later they have been searching for Stefan and Damon is protecting Elena from what is really happening, but as usual secrets have shot live in this universe and the reality of it is now on the open. Stefan is out there being really bad, and been stuck with Klaus to prevent him to know that Elena is alive. Poor Damon, he can never catch a break! And now he feels he lost his brother, the trashing of his room is the release of all the desperation of losing hope to getting him back, to getting him to be the brothers they were just starting to be again. Damon and Elena are getting close. He gave her the necklace back, once again and that gesture is becoming a Damon and Elena thing. Even if the necklace is supposed to represent Elena and Stefan relationship, Stefan gave it to her to protect her from Damon compulsion in season one, not as a romantic gesture. So it is very much a Damon and Elena related object, very important in the story. This birthday is very important in the story too, for reasons that will be explained. Elena enters her birthday party on Damon harm, in front of everybody for the first time, as if they were on a date; Damon opened his house, his precious house, to a bunch of high school students, all for Elena’s birthday. And something else happened. I am astounded by how much the show has such a settle details, you blink and you miss big clues. Elena reach Damon and Alaric on the porch, asked for Damon’s glass, drink from it and give it back to him, so nonchalantly, that even Damon is surprised. Alaric noticed that and startles for a second. All in just a very short sequence. Now definitely something is different there, between those two. Caroline and Tyler at this point are meant to be, they are so cute together. But there is a problem. We got Liz finally on boar, but now Carol is a problem, I understand she thinks she is protecting her son, but she has no idea .....what is going to happen to Caroline? Alaric is not copying well, so the decision to leave Elena and Jeremy is more a needed selfish thing to have the time grief and to find himself again. Poor Elena the birthday from hell!! And the last call from Stefan. I have conflicting emotions for Stefan at this point, I feel sorry for him, that last call broke my heart, he lost everything, and he is stack with Klaus having to do very bad things. But at the same time, he does things that are unnecessarily wicked and twisted, he is on a pretend ripper mode, and is not like Klaus doesn’t know that he is pretending, so why ripping people apart? He killed Andie, with his humanity on, consciously, he killed his brother girlfriend.... tough to digest. Elena doesn’t have a clue of who Stefan really is, but she will soon find out. And that is why Damon kept her in the dark, because Damon, contrary to Stefan, would never badmouth his brother with her. Stefan is a bit of a reticent liar when it comes to his own life and Elena is getting bits and pieces only when secrets cannot be kept secret any more. He is a shady, very flawed character and acknowledging that is tough because the way he was presented in season one. But here nobody is good or bad, they all move in a grey area, some more towards the dark side some more towards the lighter side, but their flaws are making them very human, and very complex. That is why I love Stefan anyway. And Stefan bad is so good and interesting, Paul is such an amazing actor, I have so much respect for him. Again, Sofie how you senses important scenes is incredible. The scene you put on as representation of this episode, OMG, you have know idea how crucially important that scene is.

If you take a poll for best tvd season this season would probably be #1...it's personally my third favourite season just because of the fact that it has a grey area from ep12-ep18 but it's still brilliant...and this season definitely has the best finale along with season 8

Agree with a lot Id have to add though that in Damons mind the necklace is a Stefan and Elena symbol and that he did give it to Elena to give her hope (selflessly I might add) and that you can actually see the pain on his face. Im impressed that Sophie saw the true meaning of that scene, most reactors dont.

It was a sad birthday for Elena, but still with a bit of hope. For me, Elena's necklace is becoming more and more a symbol of Elena and Damon. But for Elena, this necklace is now a reminder of Stefan and the hope for his return that Damon gave her along with the necklace. It was a beautiful and sad scene. Damon and Elena are getting closer. Damon's phrase that Elena can cry on her holiday if she wants to shows that he understands her. Perhaps more than many others. He doesn't ask her to pretend that everything is fine and have fun if she doesn't want to. No, she can cry and there is nothing shameful or inappropriate about it. About the moment with the glass has already been said.

Andy. Jeremy, Alaric, Damon. They are disastrously unlucky with girls. Damon had recently suffered the death of Rose, and now Andy was dying before his eyes again. And not just dying, but dying at the behest of Stefan, his brother. Another side of Stefan opens up and we realize that what happened in season 1 was a light introduction. And the Ripper is literally the Ripper. I don't want to blame him, but the things he does are terrible. Back in season 1, Damon with his senses turned off was the main evil of Mystic Falls, who was blamed and condemned for his behavior. And now Stefan… I am glad that he has relatives who are ready to fight for him. And the series finale. Damon smashing up his brother's room in frustration and Stefan silent on the phone. It's a strong scene. Sofie, I was glad to see your reaction. I really love season 3. I hope you like it too

Sofie I must say at least in my eyes you’re the first reactor to catch on the scene with Damon and Elena about the necklace. Most reactors take that as Damon trying to sneak his way to Elena or get closer to her but you got it right Damon gives the necklace to Elena as a hope for her relationship with Stefan his brother. That indeed was very sweet and selfless of Damon. Even though others have mentioned this before I must say this- the way you understand characters and the situation they are in really amazes me. No matter who the character is. Also, with calling out characters for doing wrong. No Matter how many reactors I watch you are and will continue to be my fav reactor. This season premier was soo good. I’m so stoked for you to watch S3. Stefan does seem super scary right now. Felt so bad for Andy poor girl I really liked her character. The look on Damon’s face when she died was soo sad ☹ Stefan’s puppy face really makes me wana just kiss him and Paul acts soo well, I guess I will keep saying this from now on lol. And yes, Klaus’s actor- Joseph Morgan is absolutely charming. I just loveee him. Tyler and Caroline finally!! I had the same reaction when I first saw this episode watching Vicky come back but absolute YES for Anna.

fun fact; the scene where damon is naked with the bubbles and elena turns around, ian said that he cut out elephant ears on both his upper thighs to create a bigger reaction out of nina cuz it was something shes never seen before lol cuz they were dating at the time
