I totally forgot that Kathrine and Elena are played by the same actress. That's how good she is.

The difference in Giuseppe's treatment of Damon and Stefan is because Damon was a deserter. The flashbacks take place during the time of the Civil War, and the Salvatores are a proud Southern family. Damon was a soldier in the war, but he deserted and came back home. Back then, it was considered a duty for every man that could to fight in the war. Damon deserting would have been considered bringing great shame on his family.

Stefan as brother in these episodes is making me mad, basically he forced Elena to look at Damon in the eyes and laying to his face, which is so out of character for her and it's a mean unnecessary thing to do to Damon. But Stefan badass is divine, his stone cold face is a Paul thing, he can pull off beautiful and menacing at the same time. You guessed another of Damon issues, his dad (big issue) and the war. OMG!!! I'm so impressed with you!!! You are the first person that notice Damon's body language, amazing...he had his nose in her hair, he smelled Elena hair and let her go reluctantly, that was the first time he had her in his arms, there, Damon's feelings for Elena and it's a clue of who Damon really is and his relationship with his brother. Remember when Damon killed Lexi, when Stefan came back home and bit Damon up, quite rightfully, Damon never defended himself, and Damon is much stronger that Stefan, he let his brother bit him up and his face when Stefan staked him, his face was of utter shock and grief, that is another big clue about their relationship..... You tell me if the little details of this show aren't beautiful. The point with Stefan is that he didn't apologize to his brother, so by expressing his guilt to Elena he make himself looking good to her eyes but makes his regret not entirely sincere. In regard of the shooting of this episode there is an hilarious anecdote told by Ian and Paul in a panel last year, it is one of the most hilarious thing I've heard in ages, enjoy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o09RDR8hc94

Honestly, I understand Stefan's reasons. I do feel bad for Damon, because he wanted so badly to be able to trust Stefan and Elena. But opening the tomb risks allowing twenty seven vampires free. And even if it goes according to plan and only Katherine gets out, there's no guarantee that Katherine and Damon will just leave town after that. Stefan knows what kind of person Katherine is, and he doesn’t want to risk letting her free so she can hurt the innocent people of Mystic Falls.

You were very perceptive in this episode, especially regarding what makes Damon the person he is. Being a soldier in the civil war must have been horrific. I believe there is an element of PTSD/shell shock. Also as you noticed, Damon didn't get on with his dad, however Stefan did. I think their father would have been harsher on Damon as he was the one who would inherit the family plantation and run it, while Stefan could study and do what he wanted in life (he wanted to be a doctor). There is also a 7 year difference between the brothers, and Stefan was the baby of the family. Stefan's life would have been a lot simpler with a lot less weight of expectation on his shoulders than Damon. On top of that, Damon deserted the Confederacy and brought shame on the family as it was against Damon's principles (which begs the question as to why he signed up in the first place). As we found out at the beginning, the story was that the people in the church were Union sympathisers and that they were burned for that reason. Damon leaving the Confederacy could almost be argued that he may have also been a Union sympathiser. With their father being staunchly pro-Confederacy, that would have gone down like a lead balloon. So at the beginning of the episode, Damon would have been a lot less shocked than most at the deaths of those men. He could justify the deaths as Katherine was feeding. To him, this was a better reason than a war he didn't agree with, where he possibly viewed the deaths as a waste of life. Every question you asked will be answered at some point, however, don't expect all of the answers by the end of S1. The background info will continue, right up until (and including) S7. Stefan is giving Elena his narrative of the story. There are parts that are missing, which means he only knows half of the story and the other part renders his point invalid. He is also neglecting the parts which make him look bad. He knows the history of him and Damon and he's scared history will repeat itself with Elena, thus he's trying to make sure Elena views himself as the good guy and Damon as the bad guy. I also think that part of the reason Damon killed so many people at the start was to make Stefan leave town. There are two reasons for me to come to that conclusion, but I can only give you one right now as the other would be a spoiler (I'll let you know when the time is appropriate). I think Damon wanted Stefan out of the way while he got Katherine out of the tomb as he knew Stefan would try and stop him. Plus I think Damon didn't want Stefan around because he wanted Katherine all to himself. Stefan was making out that wherever he goes, Damon follows and all he brings is pain and death and that Stefan played no part in why Damon acted like that. I think this episode makes you question that because Stefan certainly made things worse for his relationship with Damon. Did Damon see Stefan, follow him and randomly kill lots of people just to annoy Stefan? That is the way Stefan is describing it. I don't think Damon would have hurt Elena. He was too gentle with her, the way he sniffed and stroked her hair. He didn't want to have to take it that far. Right now, we are just scratching the surface of these two. Great reaction. Really looking forward to the next one. Take care. Stay safe, stay healthy. x

Just to add, from Stefan's perspective, I understand why he wouldn't want Katherine out of the tomb. As you saw from this episode, she's a troublemaker. He knows she wouldn't be happy with him dating someone who looks just like her. He knows she's dangerous and a lot of people could end up dead. She compelled him once he found out she was a vampire, Damon still loved her regardless and still does. Those two in a troublemaking mood would be a nightmare.

When are we getting the next reaction for this week. Cannot wait 🤗

You definitely know this by now haha, but fire is lethal to vampires and they were planning to lock up the vampires and burn them in the church. I loved how you noticed Damon's body language in this episode after he fed Elena his blood. That was the mark of a desperate man and it's clear that he really didn't want to go through with it. It's also clear that he has feelings for her.
