One of the best things about printmaking is the ability to revisit past blocks. I originally carved this design in 2017 and it was part of my first set of Valentines Day prints. At that time I printed it on a sort of marbled card with stamps, and included a heart design around the guar.

The first thing I did in revisiting it for 2022 was to take the cutting tools out again and get rid of all the little extra raised bits that printed as extra lines and dots on the design. I also attempted to clean up the linework itself a bit, especially on the letters.

I also wanted it to be more colorful and cheery this time around, so I chose a light pink paper for the card, contrasting it with a yellow-orange guar and warm red lettering.

I originally also carved some extra hearts to go around the guar, but it turned out too busy when printed.
