Hi y'all!

Thank you all so much for your support on the new video. Boundless appreciation to both the old guard and any new contributors.

I've been thinking about the patreon reward tiers; I think they could be significantly more exciting than they are right now. So I'm going to lay out a couple ideas here, but I'd love to hear from you as well. What do you want to see? What would be fun?

The most obvious one is a Discord Channel. Multiple people have asked for this, and I'm totally on board (as soon as I figure out how to make it all work.) It'll probably be at the $3 Tier and above. A lot of y'all are really smart and creative and cool, and I'd love to have a place where we can share our and each other's work, talk about art, etc etc.

I've also been toying around with the idea of adding some higher tier levels, for those of you who have the ability to spoil me like that. An idea I like is Director's Commentary versions of videos- like, me talking over them about the process, research, cut sections, etc. This would maybe start at a new $15 Tier? Not final on that.

What would y'all like to see? Either as higher tiers, or additions to existing ones? Private livestreams? Handwritten letters? Written recommendation lists? There's no idea too...

...funky.

I'd much rather see more rewards to the existing tiers as opposed to higher cost ones. I feel like anyone who has the means and desire to give $15 per video are going to do so to support you regardless of reward, so locking things behind that level would both fail to entice many to increase their contribution to that height, and would prevent most people from being able to access that content.Something like the director's commentary videos are a great idea (though they could also just be an extra off the cuff talking to the camera video of arbitrary length rather than having to be specifically talking over the entirety of the original video), and I could easily see myself increasing my contribution be $2 or so to access them. If you were to include those with a lower tier, I think you'd both have a higher conversion rate, and your work in producing them would be better rewarded as they'd be seen by more than just a tiny handful of people.

Honestly I don't want to see too much thrown into the reward tier work(discord is certainly fine); I'd rather see your time spent on the projects you want to work on, rather than spending 50 hours a months on commentary tracks or end-notes that only patrons get to see =)

Appreciated! I think I'd be able to do these commentaries pretty quickly, I'll experiment with a couple and figure it out. But that's certainly my concern as well.

I hope to one day publish video essays in a style similar to yours, and from what I've seen of Patreons that work is this: -Weekly or daily updates: Keeping lines of communication are essential, you’re already on track there and so incentivizing this is a method for tiers (one on one for top payers, for example) -GO DIGITAL…and analog sometimes: I’ve found free digital photos/graphics/screencaps do wonders for engagement. Too often an indie crowd funding will bank on postcards or something physical, but can’t deliver because of the effort…digital meanwhile is as simply as JPEG. Higher tiers receiving a one time or bimonthly thing in the mail has been a reward I’ve seen on other accounts. -Polls: Along w/the above communication notes, having polls to find out what to make next, narrow options, helps include an audience in a meaningful way. Additionally, you can also permit top patreons to make requests about what to make next. These are some shots in the dark of random assemblage, you’re a great content creator and I look very much forward to what you continue to create! Keep it up!!
