When I was planning my trip to Joshua Tree, I really didn't think I would take any self portraits.

I brought my camera along, "just in case," but I really wasn't feeling inspired at all.

This was the last day before we left, our big exploration day of Joshua Tree National Park.

As soon as we stepped out of the car for the first time to explore some rock formations, my inner creative demon wailed in celebration.

I literally heard her crawl out of her cave and demand to create.

So, I listened to her demands, and I brought out my tripod.

We drove around for a while just exploring, and I waited until we found the perfect quiet place that just called to us.

The funny part of these photos is I actually had to photoshop my mom out of some of them, because she was just wandering around finding rocks (her favourite thing to do) while I got naked to take some self portraits (my favourite thing to do). It'll always be a core memory for me, her just supporting my artistic weird side, and the two of us just doing our own favourite things together but individually.

The desert is full of such beautiful creative energy – I didn't understand the draw to it, until I was there in it. I felt it on some incredible deep level.

I can't wait to be back in the desert again.

With love
