When Melodies Combine
How do different parts and melodies come together to create a single piece of music? How do they support each other in order to form a cohesive whole? Well, lots of different ways, depending on what you want from them, but broadly speaking, we can break those ways up into what we call textures. From the simple monophony, which is just a melody by itself, to polyphony, which is all sorts of different melodies happening at once, textures allow us all sorts of opportunities to experiment and express, and they're an incredibly valuable tool in an arranger's toolbelt!
