What are your thoughts on musical fractals? The kind that Adam Neely shows off in his videos "Musical fractals" and "The Coltrane fractal"? Could you use this for any sort of composition, or is it just something cool about music? Oh, and why do you call it a subdominant? Every other theorist on youtube calls them predominants.

I notice that sometimes large leaps feel very natural and sometimes ascending or descending sequences will sound like they're bouncing up and down. Is our perception of a tone's "place" based so firmly in how it functions within its key that we just trick ourselves into hearing it the "right" way? Is this why substitutions work so nicely?
