Hello Dear Ones,

I'm barely staying ahead of things these days, so of course I'm missing telling you about all the things!

Art Shanty Projects is open!

As you might remember, I'm co-chair of the board of directors for this magical event. We're a working board, so there's a lot to do behind the scenes as well as right up in the public eye. I'm SO SO proud of the work that's taking place this year, and so excited about the magical pieces artists are bringing to the public. We've been open for two weekends, but it has been a CHALLENGE. We had to relocate our planned site to the shore, and then this past weekend's extra frigid temps kept the public away. This is your weekend to come and see the magic.

I feel more connected to the project and the board of directors this year than in past years, and I feel like we're really setting the groundwork for more success in the future. It's hard to believe the event has been running as long as it has, through so many changes in our world. I'm hoping that my work on the board builds a legacy of training leadership in the individuals who serve, and also some resilience in the org long term.

What does this look like in practice? Baking buns for artists and volunteers, running board meetings, managing the board's volunteer shifts, updating board recruitment documents, working on finding donations, and showing up to volunteer in the Welcome Shanty on the weekend.

I'm training to do a triathlon!

Our toddler is finally gotten his bivalent booster, so now I'm back to the gym (masked, mind you). This is a departure from my previous physical challenges, which were bike centric. I... do not consider myself a runner. But I'm working on it. (Right now, I'm at less than 2 miles in a run.) Later.... learn a proper crawl stroke.

Sewing

I'm working on a pattern-mixed dress, inspired by a contest over on patternreview.com that I didn't finish in time because I've been so busy with art shanties. Pattern mixing fabrics that weren't designed with that in mind is a bit of a challenge. I'm trying to mine my stash, which is full of things I've bought and inherited from others... It'll be interesting to see if I end up wearing this piece much!
