I was kinda surprised by Paula's positive reaction to Bashier. Figured he was one of the more problematic characters she was avoiding from DS9 given his early pursuit of Jadzia and two other problematic romances. There's creepier and more predatory, but at least those are usually portrayed as being wrong.

I wasn't surprised at all. Based on her prior reactions, I think Paula prefers Star Trek to be optimistic, and Bashir was one of the only positive characters on DS9. Most others tended to be bad tempered and cynical more often than not, consistent with DS9's darker overall themes (excepting Quark and sometimes Dax). As for the "creepy" element, yes it's problematic but it pretty much disappears after the first two seasons.

As far as new shows to watch, I'm still rooting for The Good Place, even though it seems like a lost cause. It's one of my favorite shows in recent memory and with lots of really interesting things to talk about and react to. Despite the premise, it has almost nothing to do with religion and everything to do about thinking about what it means to be a good person. I think it would be perfect for you two. Battlestar Galactica is pretty good too, though. At least those first few seasons.

Echoing the general consensus, while I am disappointed that the Gals won't be reacting to DS9 as a full series, I do understand that it just isn't in the cards at this point. That being said, I am in strong favor of the idea of them at least watching the pilot as a one-off special (in similar fashion to them reacting to TOS episodes in between seasons). There are just so many things that tie it in with TNG that make it a worthwhile experience overall (due mostly to the presence of Worf and O'Brien, DS9 feels like the most natural extension of TNG of all the later shows); beyond that, some of the best dramatic storytelling and character development in Trek's long history happen here. Perhaps between seasons 6 and 7 of TNG, or paired with a (pls? 🥹) reaction to Star Trek: Generations after they've finished TNG, or even a limited reaction series of just the 4-5 highlight episodes of each season. I'd honestly be willing to pay a few extra bucks a month if they can fit that in at some point; or, any chance we can commission custom reactions on here? I might be up for that; though, reactions to B5, The Orville and/or BSG are also great ideas! 😁

Re: the whole "not watching DS9" thing, it's too bad, and yeah - it's almost impossible to select "the best" episodes of DS9 out of context as the series became more serialized than any other ST series. I wonder if it would be possible though to find a few episodes featuring Worf, O'Brien (or other familiar characters - I mean, there are a couple that would be awesome for them to react to) to show.

There are plenty of Bottle episodes they can watch. The ones with the TNG crew, certain quest characters from TNG, or the Holosuites. I would much enjoy if they reacted to the Tribbles episode. DS9 has some of the best hours of any Trek series.

Anyone who likes any part of the Star Trek franchise is welcome to enjoy what they enjoy. Liking one part doesn't require liking all parts of the franchise. With the possible exception of thinking that Captain Jellico is the best captain (joking... mostly. I mean obviously the best captain is... Did you really think I'd open that little Q's conundrum here?) there is no wrong way to participate in or experience Star Trek. For all their logic, Vulcans can be whacky sometimes but they got at least one thing absolutely right: infinite diversity in infinite combinations. Peace and long life folks!

You should at least try the first few episodes of DS9. It's probably the most human expression of Star Trek and is only as dark as the human experience.

All I want after TNG is over is for you to continue the journey with these characters by reacting to the TNG movies. Then IF you’re curious about where these characters are now, maybe watch certain episodes of Picard (I won’t recommend the whole series.) Perhaps keep the “Get Warped” series going with one reaction a month from the above so it doesn’t have to be a weekly thing. Of course, do what you want…just throwing out some ideas.

A shame about DS9, but what about Voyager?

It is a shame that DS9 isn't on the list for Katrina at least. I can understand it not being what Paula likes but her opinion(which is far on the other side of most ST fans) seems to have soured Katrina on the idea. Lower Decks is great but a whole lot of it will be lost without seeing more of the ST titles.

I must admit I am one of those who are disappointed your journey with Star Trek will end with TNG. But I do hope you continue with some other SF fandom. I subscribe for the Trek and am not really into the wibbly wobbly and other stuff. I just am not sure what you would be into. BSG and the Expanse are some of the best scifi ever made, but VERY untrek like in their darker views of the future. Babylon 5 definitely has some elements of Trek positivity and hope but mixed with real world politics and an over arching good vs. evil theme. My concern there is it might seem a little hokey in that early 90s way. As for Stargate, I can see why others advocate for it and you may enjoy it but personally I hope you choose something else. I have the same general feeling for Stargate that Paula has for DS9.

Well i'm sad you won't be watching DS9, i felt the same way Paula did when i first watched it when it originally aired, but watching it later as an adult it has become somewhat of a favorite of mine (don't get me wrong seasons 1-2 have some rough patches). I think it actually is one of those shows you appreciate more when you re-watch it. But if you're not a fan of what becomes the central theme of the show, and the aspects of... ambiguity of certain arcs, then i suppose that's just the way it is. But to me the ambiguity of some revelations and the central theme of the latter seasons is what makes the show so great.

LogicSequence

I do hope you all will give the TNG movies and ST:Picard a go though, at least to see the end of the TNG story. However if that's not to be, i would throw my heart and soul behind Battlestar Galactica (the new one). Without a doubt it is a masterpiece of modern science fiction.

Hey, to each their own. Not all Trek series are for everyone (kinda like Star Wars movies TBH). I'm one of the rare few who personally likes DS9 and Enterprise the most (because reasons), but I'm weird that way. I'd say that Babylon 5 would be a good substitute...of course I'm biased, since it's my favorite TV show of all time. The rebooted BSG would definitely be good...Stargate SG-1 as well (that would be a long ten seasons to watch through...but worth it).
