Light took only Ram's book after her death. They didn't know about this book. They wonna hide the book which had last Kira.

Death Note is a masterpiece. L couldn't win the fight against Light. L was incredibly smart but Light had way too many advantages (Misa and her eyes, 2 shinigami, his dad...)

So Misa was in the end using the death note Ryuk dropped in the human world and that Light used in the first half of the series, before he relinquished ownership of the death note. You probably didn't catch in the first episode how, before Ryuk departed for the human world, the other shinigami in their realm questioned on how Ryuk ended up with 2 note books. Therefore Ryuk has his own death note and dropped his second one basically on purpose in the human world, because he was bored. Rem ended up with 2 note books as well, since she watched Gelus die for Misa, which expanded her lifespan by the time Gelus would have left, so Rem gave that note book to Misa. In the end Misas, previously Gelus', notebook was used by Higuchi and when the apprehended him, that is the note book they ended up with and want to guard in the new head quarters, with Light assuming the role of L. Therefore, when Rem died she left behind her own, original death note and that is what Light picked up and the other members of the investigation team have no idea. It's really confusing, I haven't understood the whole thing for a very long time, which is why I decided to write all that. Sorry for the long post 😂
