I don't think Claire and Carmy were ever a couple before - they just knew each other since childhood and grew up together in the same neighborhood and ran in the same circles. I think she's always had a crush on him. Claire knew everybody who was in the restaurant except Sydney, which is why she was so at ease in the situation. Natalie hugged her when she saw her, and Claire called Richie "cousin". As for their ages, I think Claire is probably in her late 20s or early 30s, and Carmy is the same age (they were in the same grade in high school). If she followed the traditional educational path of someone becoming a doctor, she would have finished undergrad at 22, med school at 26, and her residency would be wrapping up sometime around the age of 29-30.

Can't wait for 2x6

Andrew

Awesome! Should we expect 2x6 today?

I do love this show, but will skip the next one. I grew up in a dysfunctional family, and that's too much reality for me. see yall back at Ep-7!

2024-02-18 23:12:44 I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with everyone's reaction to Claire and Carmy, I found all their scenes to be really endearing and she was the perfect outside presence to make him consider what's important in life without being involved in the restaurant or his family. She is always judgement free with him and her similarly demanding job as a doctor allows her to be understanding of all his crazy time commitments and stressors. And people think she's clingy or too into him at first, and I think that's whack too. No one bats an eye at a man pursuing his crush and being so visibly infatuated and forward, so I love to see a woman being written to unapologetically show they she is crushing on someone hard.

Show Suggestion "The Magicians" On Netflix think the girls will like it. It's a funny serious show that makes fun of childhood Fantasy stories like Narina and Harry Potter whatnot. And the show is done like 5 season all ready to go

There was something about the whole Claire thing that always felt weird for me too. I don't know if it's because they wrote her almost perfect?? Like, she could be Carmy's imaginary friend lol XD It just felt a little forced for me so i'm with you guys, but i understand it's healthy for him to have a live outside of this. Love that you're watching this. This show became an all-time favorite for me <3

kelly

Same. The response to her has been so confusing to me.

I wouldn't have been caught dead at that party, let alone a situation like the restaurant. The way I would have been like "imma head out" as soon as they started all that hollerin? THATS awkward to me lol Also I think people are putting too much on Claire being weird when its clear to me that Carmy is the awkward one. I also don't think it was that he didn't remember her name at the store. I think he was shocked to see her. He didn't expect it and again, he's awkward and Claire even mentions that he's really shy. Me personally? I moved out of my home town to a totally diff state so I didn't have to worry about running into people lmao But yeah I think things will start to make a little more sense going forward. I don't love the Claire plotline but she's alright. She seems to be fairly well adjusted in comparison to everyone else, who we have had a chance to get to know more closely and for a longer amount of time outside of being extensions of a romantic subplot.

Carmy is the awkward weird one. He didn't forget her. He was shocked to see her again.

I think people forget Carmy admitted in his long monologue in season 1 that he had a stutter as a child and it made him cripplingly shy. If you notice the only friends he has in Chicago for the most part were friends of Mikey (also my guy is in his late 20's and had never been to a party). He hasn't had a social life to speak of, was aimless until he found cooking, and has done nothing but live in a kitchen for the better part of a decade. I totally understand the timing and he's putting Sydney in a tough position but my guy deserves a little slack. As it relates to Claire he's basically liked her since they were kids but he could never make a move or even really talk to her. Little did he know she liked him just as much. He has gained confidence in himself through cooking so he's made friends in restaurants and can finally have conversations with Claire. I felt this upon first watch so I don't feel like I'm speaking with knowledge about how the season ends but I think the writers were also considering how you would flirt with someone you've known and liked for half your life (but you haven't been social enough to build a solid rapport). Lastly, Carmy definitely knew who she was and I think he was trying to play it cool whist being completely blindsided by bumping into her. He had time to compose himself and gave her the wrong number at the last second since deep down he knew this would be a distraction.
