Awesome reaction! I know that what Merlin did was stupid, but can we blame him for wanting one little moment of being himself? He has to hide such a big part of who he is all the time... That scene reminds me of when he conjured the little dragon from the flames in 1x10 and his mom looks at him sadly because she knows he's hurting... And I feel so sad for Merlin when he realizes that this short moment of happiness for him led to such dire consequences... Gaius is definitely mad at Merlin in the beginning but I think he gets it, but contrary to Merlin, Gaius has witnessed the horrors of the great purge and so his fear takes over. When I watched this episode for the first time, I was really worried because the Witchfinder seemed to be a real threat to Merlin, Morgana and Gaius. I'm glad that we see Gaius blaming Uther in the end and telling him that his hatred of magic has blinded him over the years... I also feel a little sorry for Uther, he's so set in his hatred that he condemned his old friend to death, in the end he couldn't even stay and watch the execution. He's a coward and a tyrant, but deep down you can see he cares about his friend... I love how Gwen and Merlin team up to beat Aredian, their friendship is wholesole and they need more scenes together. I also love how protective Arthur is of Merlin, not believing the accusations, dealing with him when he was about to attack Aredian and breaking the law so that Merlin could see Gaius. If Arthur had not done that, Merlin wouldn't have known about the amulet being planted, so Arthur also helped defeat Aredian. Charles Dance as Aredian is terrifying, even Katie (Morgana) said she barely had to act scared in her scene with him. He kept playing with all the torture props and she was genuinely intimidated by him. Wow you're already halfway through the season, and I cannot wait for you to watch the second half, in my opinion it has some of the best episodes of the show! Next episode is one of my favorite and I'm so looking forward to your reaction!!!
