When I first watched Buffy this was the first episode that really caught my attention, because it involved one of the main cast in the monster of the week story so strongly. And they ate the fucking principal, what other show at the time would have gone there? However, yes, there is a LOT of cheesiness in it too. Really looking forward to the next one, it's one of the essential season one episodes!

Season 1 is def the most formulaic, prob because it was a mid-season show replacement with a tiny budget. Don't worry; it really doesn't reflect the quality and potential of the show overall (even though season 1 is still enjoyable to watch). Side-note: your face when, directly after you said the principal deserved to be eaten, the principal was eaten...Seemed like you def didn't expect that to happen, haha.

The next really good and very important the mythology of the show! Also it's one of the best in the season.

I'm glad you have this episode out of the way. Really looking forward to the rest of the season now! They're all either very important for the show, or just super fun and cheesy. This one and Teacher's Pet are both kind of 'blah' to me.

I find the first season is the most blah honestly but the best of the season is yet to come! I'm not particularly a fan of season 2 either but it's one of the fan favorite seasons so I'd say you'll probably find yourself way more invested and entertained once you hit season 2

I like s2, but I feel people rave about it because compared to s1, its a total game changed on what Joss Whedon was doing, where he was taking the story. Everything is smoother, funnier, more heart wrenching. Its not perfect, but for me by the end of s2 I was like “oh! So it’s gonna be like this, huh! I’m in!” Lol
