v3, Chapter 1

Monhan Family
My Father was given a new title and decided to set up a mansion in the Royal Capital. Because the fastest way to reach the Monhan fief, that Father was given territory in, was by a ship, so it was more convenient to have a mansion in the Royal Capital as well.

“Father, this mansion is…”

“It’s different from what I heard.”

At first, he was supposed to be given a new mansion, but he refused because he felt bad about accepting so much.

“I heard it was an old mansion, so I thought I would renovate it.”

“It’s big… too big”

The mansions of your usual nobles who live in the Royal Capital, the mansions of the Count-class nobles are flashy and symbolize their wealth, but my Father, who lives a simple life, did not like such a style.

“Here is a letter from Lady Oriana.”

“The Old Duchess…”

My father drooped his shoulders.

“Father-in-law, just what is this about?”

“She said she didn’t use her other mansions, so she let me have the smallest one. The garden is also small, so I am supposed to let her know if I need anything else… she got me good.”

“Um… what about the Monhan territory?”

“It used to be owned by a relative of the Ducal family… it’s untouched now.”

It’s by the sea, but there are also many rural areas. It’s a bit run-down now, but my Father can make that land prosper.

He already got a profitable land and a mansion with a garden and a luxurious carriage in the Royal Capital.

“I refused… politely”

“How did you refuse?”

“Please keep it for your daughter. And for the people of the territory.”

“Get out.”

Henry was also at a loss. My Father had been refusing acquaintances’ gratitude to the extent that it would not offend them.

It seems that he had to compromise when he couldn’t refuse.

“As expected of you, Lord Diaz! High-ranking nobles are usually greedy people.”

“Mom.”

“That’s why the Royal family and their relatives prefer modest and less greedy people.”

In other words, they were even more pleased with Father’s refusal. And maybe they took advantage of my his personality.

“I’ll have to refuse more properly next time.”

“That would be impossible.”

“That’s right. It’s impossible you, Lord Diaz.”

Mother, please don’t say that so cheerfully.
My Father really troubled already, you know?

“However, there isn’t much I can do in return.”

“I also received baby gifts for Cyril.”

I received high-end baby clothes and a bed from high-ranking nobles, not only Mother’s friends, but we don’t have anything to give to high-ranking nobles in return.

“Then how about sending a letter and handmade knitting?”

“Huh?”

“You are good at embroidery too, aren’t you?”

“Yes.”

“I have a good idea.”

Mother smiled happily. But this smile made me feel like she was thinking of something else.

“My stomach… My stomach hurts!”

I was worried because Henry was holding his stomach, but I ended up embroidering handkerchiefs and writing letters.

As a result, something terrible happened.

v3, Chapter 2

Outrageous Mother
Henry’s Point of View
“My stomach feels like it’s going to collapse.”

“That’s pathetic, Master Henry.”

“Don’t say that, Bella.”

I don’t have the steel toughness of my Mom. I don’t feel like I can become that strong.

In a sense, I respect her.

“A letter came from the Ducal family.”

“Isn’t that good?”

“It’s not good.”

The other party is a Royal family. Moreover, it was a handwritten letter from the mother-in-law of Her Highness.

“I’m scared every time Mom does something.”

The other party is a noble and a member of the Royal family. We are commoners in comparison.

“We also have our status.”

“It’s okay. Isn’t Lady Marie a Count’s daughter now?”

It was good timing that my father-in-law got a countship.

“Besides, your mother is a Viscountess.”

“Huh?”

I didn’t hear anything about that.

“Madam has been actively involved in charity work all these years. Which earned her a title, but she refused.”

“I see… Is that so?”

“Yes, but two months ago she was told to accept her title.”

“Who told her that?”

“Your Father’s older brother, your Uncle.”

What?
I didn’t hear anything about this.

In the first place, my Father’s family is supposed to be estranged with us!

“Master was the third son of a Count’s family, but he always had a good relationship with his siblings.”

“But I heard Father wasn’t treated good there…”

“More precisely, it’s his relatives. They had an ugly fight over the inheritance and the succession rights.”

The people from the branch family, huh.
There’s much I don’t know about my Father’s family.

I just knew that relatives came to say nasty things from time to time.

“He also didn’t want to have a family feud over inheritance with his siblings.”

“I see.”

I was mistaken.

“We have nothing to do with my Father’s family, though.”

“That’s because Madam has more assets.”

“Huh?”

My Mom has more assets?

“Yes, even counting Count families, there aren’t that many wealthy nobles. On the other hand, Madam might be a commoner, but her family is wealthy, and she is very good at business.”

“Umm…”

“After Master passed away, Madam focused on doing business, and she has become wealthy.”

“In other words?”

“Even though your Father’s family insulted and ridiculed her, in the end, she became wealthier than them, so they couldn’t say anything.”

Just how much money do you have, Mom!

“She’s also actively involved in charity work, so they can’t ignore her, right?

“Don’t ‘right?’ me now.”

“So don’t worry about it.”

No, I feel like I’m getting more worried. If my Mom had a title, she would be more likely to do something terrible.

And then.

“Henry! I have wonderful news!”

“Mom.”

I hope it’s not wonderful for her, but terrible news for me.

v3, Chapter 3

High Society
The world has entered the social season.
For women, it’s a competition, but I didn’t know much about it because I haven’t made my social debut.

“Huh? Me too?”

“Yes, I heard you haven’t made your social debut.”

“Mom!”

In my family situation, I couldn’t even make my social debut seriously.
Shepherd made his social debut in the Capital, though.

“I’m already a mother, though.”

“It doesn’t matter. I rather envy you for becoming such a young mother.”

Is that how it is?
We got married right after graduating and have been busy ever since.

“In the noble society, many women who get married can’t have children easily.”

“I see…”

“Yes, there are few people in their early twenties who can have children. Moreover, it’s not uncommon for people to adopt children because they can’t have them now.”

“Yes.”

I know that. That’s why my Grandfather wanted my Father as his son-in-law.

“I also had that child late.”

“Mother.”

“It’s a miracle to have a child so early and still be so beautiful.”

I don’t know because I’ve never compared myself to others.
But I guess I must be lucky.

“Sometimes childbirth weaken the body, and some even lose their lives.”

I had an easy delivery, but childbirth was difficult.
But I’ve heard that giving birth too young can be fatal, and the opposite is also true.

“It’s difficult to recover your physical strength and body shape after childbirth.”

“Is… that so?”

“Yes, I want to brag that I’m still beautiful even though I gave birth to a child.”

I wonder why. Mother’s eyes were shining suspiciously.

“Mom. You’re not thinking of anything good again, are you?”

“Oh my? You are doubting me.”

“It’s because of your daily behavior. What are you going to do with Marie?”

Henry didn’t like me going into the society. I was thinking about doing it someday, but it’s when it comes to the social world of the Royal Capital, it’s totally different from the frontier.

“We just wait for the right timing…”

“We don’t have time to talk about such leisurely things.”

“What do you mean?”

Mother seemed to be in a hurry about something. Is there a reason why I have to make my social debut early?

“It’s because Lord Diaz was given a Count’s title that everyone is more interested in Marie.”

“Yes.”

“If I’m also given a title, you Henry, as my heir, must become part of the noble society as well… The social world of the Capital is different from that of the frontier.”

“I understand that…”

“You don’t understand. The social world of the Capital is a nest of demons much worse than you think, Henry.”

What does “nest of demons” mean?

Is it such a dangerous place?
At that time, I didn’t understand the meaning of making my social debut in the Capital.
